I found some berries, sea grass, and clams for a light meal, then when it was getting dark, went to stand by the water.
It was quite dark when something pallidly luminescent pink swam up to slowly rise from the water.
It took all my will power to remain in place. It was huge. All quivering pink and jelly like except for the vaguely human like face. Even that had a strange tentacular growth where a nose would have grown.
It was shaking all the time it towered over me.
I took a deep breath. "Hello, I'm told you will answer questions?'
"If I must." The voice was low and deep.
"Yes, what are you?"
"They call us Shoggoths, we obey the makers and their families."
"Who are the makers?" "Ancient scientists, most are dead."
"How does the man named Barry fit?" I asked, hoping to learn something about my mysterious father.
"He is my maker, he is youngest." It answered.
"Where is he, and what does he want of me?" I took a deep breath.
"He is trapped, and needs the great prism."
"Where would I find that?" I asked.
"On the Forbidden Island on the sea of Black Sparrows."
"Never heard of it of course, how do I get there?" I held my ground as it rose higher.
"The ferry from Narrath tonight, 2 hours from now goes there."
"Where is Narrath?" "Go south along the beach to reach it." It abruptly wheeled out to sea, and soon vanished beneath the waves.
I sighed and began walking, surprised to find Jewel, the calico cat at my side.
She followed me all the way to an old village. It had no one living there, but as we approached, an old ferry slowly drew up to the dock.
"How much to reach the Forbidden Island?" I asked the tall hooded figure who stood at it's wheel.
"Nothing if ye be the daughter o Barry Cormes."
"I am." I answered, though I'd never heard his last name before.
"Good, be that cat with you?" He looked down at Jewel.
"Yes, we met at father's cabin." I answered quietly. "Good, she's been here twice looking for ye."
Once we were on board, plus and elderly couple, he took us out to sea.
To be continued.
