Reporter Mon Tulfo and Raymart Santiago were reportedly in a fist fight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 3. Apparently, the brawl started after Tulfo had taken photos of actress Claudine Barretto berating a stewardess in the NAIA terminal.
There were more than just those three involved in this airport scuffle though, as a gang of men went up against Tulfo. According to Inquirer.net, it all began with Ramon Tulfo (aka "Mon") noticing a woman who had brought a ground stewardess near tears. Apparently, the issue was over "an off-loaded luggages" as witnesses noted. Tulfo approached the two women and began taking photos with his mobile phone.
Shortly after he started taking photos, a man from Barretto's group, later identified as Raymart Santiago, approached Tulfo. He demanded that Tulfo hand his phone over which he had been using to take the pictures. However, Tulfo refused to do so, and that resulted in several more men from Santiago and Barretto's party ganging up on Tulfo. Tulfo said later he was not sure who threw the first punch.
Tulfo recounts that he was hit on his blind side, and that Barretto kept cursing at him during the brawl. He also was not sure if he kicked Barretto while trying to fight off the other men attacking him. Later he commented, "This is the real persona of an actress who is always portrayed [in the movies] as a martyr."
Both Barretto and Raymart Santiago are denying Tulfo's accusations about what happened, with Barretto stating Tulfo threw the initial punch that started the brawl. Raymart even said that Tulfo kicked both he and his wife, and that he would never hit an older man in front of his children. As of this report, no arrests have been made over this Mon Tulfo vs. Raymart Santiago fight, but an investigation is in progress.
So it seems even in the Philippines fights break out between paparazzi or reporters and celebrities who don't like their privacy invaded. Right now this is a case of him versus them, but you'd have to think there were plenty of witnesses who noticed this going on. If nothing else, there may be footage from airport security cameras to show how this all started and who is responsible. In the case of Tulfo, he may have felt threatened by a group of hostile men to the point he had to defend himself. However, if it comes to light that Santiago started with the first punch, things could end up getting messier than they already are!
