The mystery of the origin of Solomon Island's dark-skinned blonds is over, and guess what? The evil Europeans are not to blame. It turns out that the beautiful people of the Solomon Islands are born with a blond gene. That's all folks!

They are beauties, and their skin is black. God is wonderous! He is able to make all color people with all color hair. He makes humans with diversity of color, but that doesn't give any of us the right to judge someone by the color of the skin or hair.

I saw this article and at first I was annoyed. Why should it matter, but apparently it is a genetic mystery which scientists have discovered that there is no one to blame. These are just God's creatures with blond hair and black skin.

Sure. Remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are many on Gather who are, in my mind, very beautiful indeed. My mind's eye sees beauty many places.

Oh yes there is. someone, 3 or 4 hundred years ago shared that little gene with one of them :) Nature did the rest.

that lady who was acused of child abuse who tans a lot looked black to me and she had blonde hair so maybe it is just from being in the sun so much

Scientists have no interest in placing blame - that's for other people to do. The mystery of hair color in the genetic code is a tough nut to crack because there's so much variety from so many different genes contributing. Same thing with skin color - there are so many shades and varieties because of the same genetic reasons. If geneticists can "crack the hair color code", it'll give them insight into more complicated genetic predispositions, like Alzheimer's and obesity.

I am no longer sure because my mind is cluttered with so much literature, but I believe I read somewhere the blond hair in darkly pigmented people was caused by a nutritional deficiency. Or it might be, they just dyed their hair as part of religious ritual.
