Grey's Anatomy season 8 continues next week with episode 23, "Migration," and the residents are going to have some decisions to make. As the last episode revealed, April failed the boards. What comes next?
Grey's Season 8 Episode 23 "Migration" Promo
"The residents determine their future as they make their final decisions regarding post residency positions; Mark admits to Derek that he is torn between his love for Lexie and the fact that Julia can give him everything he's ever wanted; Ben plans something extra special for Bailey, but she is preoccupied with her work; and Arizona encourages her childhood friend, Nick, to have surgery. Meanwhile a couple on their third honeymoon come to the hospital complaining of mysterious symptoms."
The last episode, "Let the Bad Times Roll," left many storylines open, and there are only two episodes, including "Migration," left to resolve them this season. Will some of them be left on cliffhangers by the time "Flight" is over? It was revealed that April was the one of the five residents who failed, and Sarah Drew had revealed in previous spoilers that she was going to be one of the ones back at the hospital when something goes down in the finale. Is she back in the hospital because she failed her boards and her future is much more uncertain?
In the Grey's Anatomy season 8 episode 23 promo for "Migration" (below), the residents are celebrating after passing their boards, but April's going to get even more bad news when, as you would expect, she gets news that one of her offers was withdrawn. Meanwhile, Cristina appears to be planning to leave, but she is going to end up with Owen at least one last time. Will they talk things out before or after that happens? What will her choice mean for them?
While it appears Cristina's serious about wanting to leave and so does Alex, one person who doesn't want to is Meredith. She tells Derek, "We are staying," but he says "We're leaving." As "Let the Bad Times Roll" showed, Derek's fine with moving to Boston even though he's been working on their dream home. In fact, he's even more okay with it than she is. Will the episode end with them planning to leave Seattle behind?
Then there are two other storylines from the previous episode that will be continuing. Callie walks up behind a very upset Arizona. Is this going to end with Nick dying? Is she going to have to say goodbye to her rock? Could Callie have come up with something to save him? Could that be the surgery that Arizona is going to be encouraging Nick to have? Finally, there's the Lexie-Mark-Julia situation. Lexie finally found the words to tell Mark she loves him (multiple times) just before Julia joined them. Julia wants a family with Mark, and now he's going to have a decision to make. Mark and Lexie are only briefly in the "Migration" promo, but will he make a decision in this episode? Will he ask Derek for advice when he talks to him? Will Derek give him a metaphor like he learned to do from Bailey?
