I have chosen to take part in the Live Below the Line challenge through bzzagent.com.
Let me give you some information on the challenge:
Live Below the Line is a campaign that challenges individuals and communities to eat and drink on just $1.50 per day for 5 days. By exposing participants to a glimpse of some of the daily difficulties experienced by the 1.4 billion people who live in extreme poverty every day, for everything, the campaign provides a unique window into understanding the realities of life for so many.
Through the insights gained over the 5 days, Live Below the Line is assembling a movement of people passionate about eradicating extreme poverty. Through partnerships with various charities, the campaign raises both awareness and critical funds.
If you don't think you can live off $1.50 a day yourself, pass on the information and the Live Below the Line website to friends and family who you think will be up for it. Be sure to tell them to choose the BzzAgent network from the drop down menu on the Live Below the Line sign-up page so we know your Bzz is working!

I have been preparing for this challenge since enrolling a couple weeks ago.
My mom is telling me "no, you can't do this, you are skin and bones already". My hubby is supportive and has been making food suggestions.
I have been making a list of foods and their price per serving, per ounce, etc.
Here are some examples:
Milk will be just .125 per cup--thankfully it's been on sale for $2 a gallon and we stocked up for my week!
Saltine crackers .006875 each. This is based on 128 crackers in an .88 store brand box, which we bought.
Ramen noodles--.165833333 per package --each package is 2 servings
tea--.03 per 8 oz glass
Dr. Pepper --13.5 oz is .15 --this is figured on a 2 ltr which we bought on sale for $1.25 and had a .50 coupon making the 2 ltr just .75. Yes, it will be flat after a couple of days but no, I am not willing to try to give it up.
Carnation Instant breakfast mix--.4210 per package per day.  I was fortunate to have a .75 coupon when buying this making it a bit cheaper---I have had this for breakfast for 10+ years and it contains my vitamins.
There are other things on my list, these are just examples.
Yes....I will be figuring my food down to the exact cost---I will have to to try to meet the $1.50 only on food and drink each day.
My next step is to actually sit and make myself out some menus.
Watch for my posts from May 7th thru the 11th. I will be reporting on how much and what I eat each day!

I just lost my job yesterday, after 20 years with the company. I know finding a replacement down here will not be easy. Jobs here are scare. So many of my fellow coworkers who are still employed by the same company have been cut down to 10 -15 hours a week and are on unemployement.
Blessings,Friend!
Otherwise, it is a very admirable thing to do, attempting to simulate living in someone's shoes who is less fortunate!
They are saying for the 5 days that we need to make sure to eat lots of starches to keep our energy up and cheap proteins.
Ramen noodles I guess has both.
I'm "cheating" somewhat by using items that I bought super cheap with coupons such as the boxes of whole wheat pasta that I got last week for just .38 for the box.
I did the same with instant pudding, bought it on sale and with a coupon...figured out was like 1/3 of the price of a pudding cup even adding in the milk to make it.
Callisto gets free breakfast and lunch at school...we do what we can to buy sales and use coupons and such...eat leftovers...whatever it takes to stretch our budget
