Oh, Oh~Looks Like We've Been Updated Without Being Updated Or, Is This Goodbye, Gather???

I've been seeing & commenting on posts all week-end about points being frozen, and based on my last 2 posts, one showing views, and one NOT, it appears we've been moved into another Gather realm (that of the Socialwriters???), without being informed, without any input (well, not that we had much, anyway).

 

Many members are here not for the points, and I believe them when they say that. As a long-time member (almost 6 years), I have seen the friendships and bonds that have developed thru posts, comments, and even member visits. But, as we've withstood all the changes thru the years, and the friendships & bonds hold steady, as well as the loyalty to Gather, this site, as no other that I'm aware of, will not withstand a "fast one" pulled on its members~I sincerely hope that's not the case...

Just when I posted this, the "views" weren't showing~even if there are 0 views, the word "views" still shows up.

Maybe it was a mistake. Don't the social writers get paid cash, instead of points? I thought members had to apply and be approved for this.

Yep, they get paid cash, but my last post posted without any views (like the SW's), & I checked a few other members' recent posts (who were not SW's), & didn't see views, so I got concerned & kinda scared!

I havent seen a change in name of gather or anything,, I got my friends and points I am ok with the points...

This all is so very weird.......I hadn't gotten a single point in 4 or 5 days........was really starting to get "bad feelings" that this was going to be the end for Gather......although I'm glad to see the points moving once again..........it does make me wonder, though, how much longer Gather will exist in its "present form?"

See ya, & you're not being a pain~my kids purposely didn't teach me PC language, so they could keep mom in the dark. So I searched & searched 'til I got pretty good at it (esp. with texting), & my kids finally said, "Ma, ya abbreviate everything~ya gotta stop!"

They have been routing stuff thru something for a while. I can tell because the iPad acts different when I click the social writer posts. I think it is sending twitters, too.

The thing that has really begun to bug me with each new development is that we never hear from Gather anymore, as if we are embarrassing them or they are trying to make us leave passive aggressively.

That's the feeling I have also, just by the degrees in which they make changes~the initial change to "content" was to rid the site of point whores, tho' some still remain.

Points are moving but I certainly didn't get what I normally would have. I know I would have earned more than eight points during the down time.

More changes have been going on and maybe not for the better. I think I will try to hold out and see what they are doing. I think that Gather needs to tell us what is going on. Not so much anymore.

Maybe I'm denser than some, but what do you mean by 'social writers' and that they have a separate Gather Realm....?

As far as I can see it is all one same Gather....

SW's are part of the Skyword network, which, as I understand it, "owns" Gather~at least, that's where our payments come from.

I did some work for them last year for two projects in the Spring but I was just a Gather member doing freelance for them and did get paid for the work, but I was not deemed to be a 'social writer' or am considered an employee.
I've also done paid work for Gather several years ago as one of their 6 food correspondents, but was never "employed" by them.
I think many Gather members misunderstand the freelancers' connection.

There have been many times that I've read a post from a Gather member and saw zero views but several recommends and comments. I just figured it was a computer glitch or slow update or something.
