I have noticed that many members are chatting about others not commenting on their posts.  I wonder if everyone is having as hard a time as I am when it comes to finding every-one's posts.  I mean often the email notifications are not getting through to every-one's email.  Then there are illnesses that prevent us from staying on top of all the posts. 

I understand that there are members who are here for the points and that is cool.  However, not everyone is here for the points.  Some members are here to share their writing and/or photos. Others are here for the friendship and social aspect of the site.  Just like any real community, there is room for everyone.

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow may never come.  All we have is today.

Why are you here? 

 

 

 

 

 

RedBird has been having some medical problems for a few weeks now.  She has finally got some of the test results back.

 . . . hubby has been in the hospital since Friday night. His platelet counts got very dangerously low. The doctor said if he had waited even a day or two longer to go to the doctor, he could have died.

 

Angela has not written a post on this subject but you can comment on any of her posts to show your support to her.

In an attempt to get your questions and problems taken care of in a timely manner, Gather has a staff of customer support agents just for your problems. However, keep in mind that they cannot help you if you don't tell them what is going on.

Please refer all your questions, concerns, and feedback to the official Gather HELP FORM.

The Gather staff will respond (if necessary) by email. The Gather Help Desk will be used for important announcements so feel free to check it out from time to time.

That is wonderful. I know I have found some amazing friends here as well. I keep in touch with many of them via mail, phone or texting, yet I have never met them in real life.

Have you met any of the friends you have made in the gather community in real life?

No, I haven't. I don't live close enough to any of them. Maybe someday, we'll be lucky enough to meet some of them. :)

I am one of those people that has a hard time finding other people's work. Most of the time, stuff doesn't show up in my feed :(

And I am here primarily to make money, as I work just from home, but I do treasure the friendships I've made. Yours included, Connie.

I think I am going to start a book marking folder for my favorite gather folk so I can just check each of them out each day. I will probably wait until I get a new computer before I do it or I will just have to do it all over again. That does not sound like fun at all.

I do enjoy the paypal from my points but I love the friendship I have made even more. Yep, we are friends for life! Even if that new guy you are seeing is keeping you away a lot these days. :)

I am here to share what I have. I have not cashed out in two years...so I'm not here for points. I made alot of friendships. But most of them have seem to disappear to. I was going through my friends list and noticed over half hasn't signed in since 2011. That's alot of people leaving.

I enjoy sharing as well. I have also learned a lot.

Wow! two years is a long time to not have cashed out. I was cashing out each month until Feb of this year now it is taking me longer to earn what I want in a month.

I too have made a lot of friends and treasure them. There are a lot of new people on gather too. Maybe you could find some new ones to connect with.
I haven't been on here much in the last two years thou. I finally go internet back last summer. I am more addicted to Facebook games. I have recently been doing more than viewing. I have been doing comments and starting to create more articles.

I have added some new friends to the mix. I plan on adding more. I enjoy checking out and meeting new people.

I found gather through borders books and a poetry contest they were having. It looked like a nice place to share my writings so I joined. I didn't know about the points, but they have been a nice bonus over the years.

I think a lot of members joined due to writing contests. I remember one writing contest they had brought many members but once the contest was over, they never came back.

I am glad you stuck around.

I agree the points are a nice perk. They have come in handy to help pay bills around here. I always cash out for paypal.

Our daughters won't be home for Mothers day. Tina is waiting till the weekend after mothers day to come home because she is cooking my birthday dinner.

I have no idea when Victoria will be home. She hasn't been able to come home since Christmas.

Haley had her dance recital last weekend and I would have loved to have gone to see her. She was so excited. Some people who go to church with them went and took her flowers. She loved that. She FaceTimes me about every night on her ipod these days.

I was invited to Gather by Speaking Of Faith (now On Being). I am definately not here just for points, as I don't have enough time to spend here to get much anyway. I enjoy reading and socializing and post things when time permits. Especially interesting stuff on Gather today. Hope to get to some of it later. Thanks for bringing these to our attention.

How neat, its wonderful to see your perspective. I have had so much fun on Gather. I joined because I hoped to learn a little about writing, I'm still trying. But I didn't expect it to be so much fun or to meet so many like minded people. As for points, yes thats a nice treat.

Great post for us all & the comments are fantastic too ... I joined Gather in 2006 & have loved it ever since ... love reading all the comments from my posts & others too - the diversity is great & even the politics are fickle here too ... BUT all in all have met online some wonderful ppl that I could not have met otherwise. Kudos to YOU all ... we do share because we do care :)

Tomorrow I will be here 5 years. I'm here to write and share my poems and articles with others. I pray each day God uses me to help others, uplift them and draw them closer to him.
I need to pace myself between chores and Gather is a good place for me to jump off and on during the day that keeps me busy when I am resting. :)

I have met a lot of wonderful people on here, including you, Connie and I feel like this community is a family. All kinds of people from all kinds of walks in life, that we can celebrate our differences and our alikeness and learn from each other.

You can travel to different places without leaving home... and see things through other peoples eyes that you would not see on an "official" tour.

We laugh together, cry together, support each other and we can be there in ways for others like no one can..

I'm not here for the points... I'm here for the people.

I love sharing photos and posts with Gather friends and commenting on their submissions. I've been on Gather for about four years and have seen Renee's son James grow from baby to little boy and have followed her efforts to prevent child abuse. I've enjoyed poetry from many members and I feel like I know the families of some.

I just love watching the kids of the members as they grow up. I feel like I know Angela, Jax daughter. I have watched her grow from a kid to a beautiful young lady!

Oh and yes, baby James has grown up right before our eyes as well. I just love it.

I am like you, I have some wonderful friends that I have never even met. You are always so encouraging and a dear friend. I am glad you are here.

It took a long time to just get to your reply, MLM. Yesterday (Connie, I hope you read this) Alice G had commented on my post. I saw it the day before and yesterday went back to it because I think she was asking how to make a ♫ symbol. I found her comment and almost before my eyes, it vanished.

Today, I tried to go back to that post. It took me forever and then, Gather kept opening up other posts without even my clicking my mouse. That's actually been going on for a couple of days. Good thing I love my Gather family.

Oh, I forgot to mention that quite often, I get messages for posts I have open that I'm not connected to the internet. I never lost the internet connection so I guess it's just another glitch.

I am insulted! Of course I read all the comments!!

I am not really insulted, just kidding but I do read the comments. I have been having a lot of problems with comments today. They seem to reappear though. Strange. Must be getting ready for another upgrade. I don't know that to be a fact but it seems like the problems get worse just before and after upgrades.

Of course that is just my observation though. No official statement from gather officials that I have seen.

Funny you should ask, Connie. I update every day. Scan every day and once a week do a full 4 hour scan. I try not to click on links and for the most part use this computer for a little for Netflix and a great deal for Gather. I had just wiped this computer's hard drive clean and started fresh. This is the old computer that used to be my business computer.

Almost every day, I find a little Trojan warrior that snuck in. I think they're trying to build up a batillion.

I'm so glad you weren't insulted. It's just that Gather seems to listen to you and these were more issues I'd run into. BTW, Alice G's comment on my post never reappeared.

Initially I joined at the suggestion of my publisher and wanted to see what other writers were doing. I have developed many wonderful relationships here and have never cashed in my points. I treasure the site but have seen many come and go. I guess it is like life in general. People come and go.

Connie, I joined at the suggestion of Clifford and I very glad I did. I too have already made many friends and received so much encouragement too. It is unreal how close you can become with people you have never met in person; when you read so much of what comes from the hearts of the folks on here you get to know them much better than you can most people you associate with in person. For one thing people are pretty transparent on here and most are not at all know it all or snooty (even those who make a decent living from their writing). Gather folks in general are supportive and helpful and honest in a kindly fashion. Many don't agree on politics and religion but are still courteous and respectful. I like that people can respect others. I am only sorry I don't have more time to write and keep up with commenting too.

Thanks Connie. You are another reason so many of us like Gather.

I came for the money and stayed for the people. Now, the money is pretty much gone, and so are most of the people. I pop in a bit as it suits my schedule, but I no longer spend significant time perusing this site or contributing to it like I used to.

I see that, like several others, I came here originally because it was a great place to write and read other writers. Over the years, though, I've gotten to know so many wonderful members of the community that it's grown to be so much more. Where else can I share someone's vacation photos of China, read astounding poetry, gossip about this and that, pick up new recipes and ideas for projects, and just generally "visit", as we say down here, with an entire world full of people.
