Stuart Chaifetz has an autistic child 10 years old in school in New Jersey. The school kept complaining that his son was hitting the teacher and aides in school. His son had never shown any signs of violence at home. So Stuart put a wire on his son and took him to school. I have heard the tape. One aide was intoxicated and admits it on tape. They bullied his son in class, and called him a B*****D. It is terrible abuse from the teacher and the aides.
He has a New Jersey petition on Facebook. I have already signed it. There also is an article on Yahoo. Facebook also has the video and tape of 6 hours in school.
Several years ago this also happened to an Autism child in Pahrump, Nevada. Only that time the child was slapped by an aide. We need to change the laws as they will not fire the teachers.

I can't understand why people take this short of jobs, if they can't handle it... Why do we pretend that we care, when we don't care at all after all about life, especially when it is not in a perfect form?
Special education children should be handled by special education staff, dedicated, specially trained and paid accordingly.
"Paid accordingly? Why", would a Free Market purist will ask? "Those kids are a burden on the society, and no matter how much money we put in them, they will never turn into useful members of the society. It is a bad investment"...
The teacher, or the substitute involved, if the teacher was not there, should not be fired. The two, whatever they were and having that conversation should be charged with abuse of a special needs child, not performing their duties, having private conversations during their job and so forth...
So, what is next? Install video and sound monitoring in the classes, and hiring guards to police the classes?
This is one of the reason why, more and more parents are homeschooling. The home schooled population is not made any longer by "Dysfunctional Religious Fundamentalists" but by desperate parents who are failed by the system...
Actually what has to be done, is to find a way to compensate the parents who are forced to home school in similar cases. The parents who are home schooling, are still paying for services that they are not receiving. They are paying taxes to support the public system, but they can't use it!!!
They should at least be exempt from the taxes which are levied to support the local school system...
I think that we have to work with those among us who think that they are normal, and they are not.
I don't have too many words for those who want to works with kids, but they hate kids... I don't have understanding for those who want to be treated like human beings, but they behave like anything else, but...
Thanks for sharing this Jean.
Unions need to be ousted from education. And, yes, teachers like this should be both fired and criminally charged with abuse.
I know several day cares that have cameras all around the building and in the rooms.
I do not agree with child abuse of any kind. I also do not agree with child abuse on a special needs child.
The thing is we do not know what is the cause of autism is, yet. But, it has been shown that children can exhibit signs of possibly being autistic many months before their first vaccine.
I had posted this about 2-3 days back.
I am glad that you have done this.
Because I was going to ask something like: What are autistic children doing in a public school?
as far as special needs children being in school, it is advocated that they be mainstreamed instead of trying to seclude them from the rest of society. Just because they have more problems than most people does not mean that they deserve a lesser inclusive life.
When the teachers find what "normally" works with the other children doesn't work with these children they get frustrated and angry because they think "Don't be a brat"... and they are not being brats. If you look up aspergers, you will learn the children say a lot of the same phrases like "I wish I was dead".... and exhibit the same behavior... it's the disorder, not that the parents "spoil them" the tantrums are from overload or breaking their routine.
If you remember the movie Rainman, the autistic man was in a panic if he could not see the tv show he watched every day. That was part of his routine, break the routine... and the panic ensues. When these kids are going to do something different... like going on a field trip, they have to be prepared and you might have to talk a lot about it, doing a count down of the days. Why because if you spring it on them the day of the field trip.. they might not get their minds around the change.
They are wired differently... and handled with some knowledge it can go well. Try to do what works with other, nope won't work. These kids often have high IQ's .. it's not about being low IQ or "violent tendencies".... it's about them growing up and mastering some control.
One boy told me he didn't want to learn to drive... he wanted to learn to control his anger better first. I told him I was proud of him. How many people have anger issues and don't care. He was smart enough not to do something he wasn't ready for. He is driving and going to college now.
What was vital was he had a mother who fought for him... and did what ever she could to get him what he needed to succeed.
I would like to mention that there are mothers on gather with these children, and there are people who are writers on her that have autism and asperger diagnosis and you might not even realize this...
Some are married and have children just like the rest of us. They can live normal lives... and do.
One of my children had adolescent onset epilepsy and the schools treated him like he had low intelligence. He had a IEP, but before the onset, he was tested reading on a Post High School level in 7th grade. When you deal with people who don't understand all the disabilities, like I said they tend to have misconceptions. I really think the schools need to take another look at how to prepare these teachers on how to deal with these children more effectively.... and when you don't know, you can wind up burned out... and frustrated.
There is no excuse for what these teachers did... none at all... I just know from the children I know and the mothers that ignorance on these conditions is the biggest battle they have... and these people should be aware of the different conditions and the different methods of helping.
One boy I knew wound up in a group home, another went to college... and they both have Aspergers... it makes me sad to think that the one in the group home wound up there might have been because he felt he was isolated, mishandled by the teachers and could only respond with anger because of how he was treated... and this was the only viable solution for him... Too often the child is labeled violent... and clearly as this man's story shows, the boy was acting out because of the horrible treatment by the teachers.
And if you remember the boy that was voted out of the classroom by his teacher and fellow students (there was a lawsuit on that one too) had the same diagnosis... Humiliation is not going to work... it only makes it worse.
