Marvel's ' The Avengers' - In Theaters Friday, May 4
I was fortunate to have won tickets from GOFBO to see a screening of The Avengers before it is released and it was absolutely awesome!
They even gave away a really neat movie poster that now proudly hangs in my grandson's room.
I totally predict it will become a classic in the old sense.
Comic-book geeks need not lose heart. Ditto, for the action aficionados. The Avengers is not only exciting but, surprise, surprise, also extremely funny. But it is the characters that make this movie shine. Infusing plenty of laconic wit into his role, Robert Downey Jr is impressive as ever. Also reprising their characters are Chris Evans (Captain America) and Australian beefcake Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Black Widow's (Scarlett Johansson) mind games leave you simply asking for more; and Jeremy Renner's (Hawkeye) is once again seen doing what he does best - playing around with his bow and arrows. LOL The real casting coup, though, is Mark Ruffalo as the mild-mannered scientist; Dr Banner, who has some serious anger management issues. The premise of the movie is that our heroes are in pursuit of the Tesseract, a cube of cosmic super-awesomeness which was previously seen in Iron Man 2 (2008), Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). The film maintains a fine balance which holds together the characters, the gravity, the wit, and the ample pyrotechnics. And when the pyrotechnics come, man do they come fast! And there was also non- stop action from the very first screen shot till the credits were rolling.
It was really fantastic 'The Avengers' lives up to its hype -- and raises the bar for Marvel at the movies. I give it a rating of 9.5 out of 10
