The Pure Food and Drug Administration was gutted over the last 30 years. They are now not much better than a handmaiden for the food industry.

The use and abuse of antibiotics has grown over the years, and it is now exacerbating illness and causing wide-spread death.

Wouldn't it be nice if their purpose was to actually to protect Americans rather than pander to giant corportations?

Over many of the years that was its purpose, but this isn't the first time it has fallen under the thrall of the drug companies. Many years ago, it was on the verge of authorizing thalidomide in the US. One woman doctor in the FDA kept that from happening. She almost lost her job over it, but then the thalidomide babies began to be born in Europe.

There was money to be made. Of course they caved in to those big money interests. It's human nature given the nature of our money.
