The free Extreme Rules match goes live after 7:30 p.m. EST on YouTube, courtesy of WWE. It will be currently US Champion Santino Marella defending his title against former champion, The Miz. Miz's career was looking lackluster leading up to Wrestlemania 28, but he managed to help Team John Laurinaitis get the win over Team Teddy. Now he's looking for another championship reign on his resume.
Meanwhile, Santino Marella has nearly held the US title for two months. His victories over the past weeks have been over the likes of former champions Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler, as well as John Laurinaitis's right hand man, David Otunga. Santino will now look to extend his reign with a big win this Sunday. The two will meet in what WWE is billing as a special live stream pre-show, right before the official Pay-Per-View starts.
So who will leave Chicago as the United States Champion? Smart money is on Santino to warm the crowd up for the main PPV card with his comedic wrestling routine. It's hard to see The Miz winning this match, which is basically a dark match. He's lost a prominent role from television in the past weeks, even though he was instrumental in winning that Wrestlemania match. One has to wonder if Miz will be moving on to other gigs in the near future, such as a return to MTV or another channel. It's unfortunate, because he certainly has shown skills in his work on the mic, and ability as a heel to get heat from the crowd.
