Grey's Anatomy season 8 is winding down, and the residents are going to have to figure out where they want to go next. Meredith's revealed that Seattle is not her first choice. Could she and Derek be planning to leave Seattle—and their dream house—behind?

Shonda Rhimes talked to The Hollywood Reporter about what the remaining episodes and the future hold for these characters, and she has revealed that, with Meredith looking at the program in Boston, "things take a fairly surprising turn in that Derek gets excited about Boston" because "it's near his family" and "Harvard is going to offer him the world." It becomes "a very real possibility for the two of them." But could you imagine Grey's Anatomy without Meredith and Derek? Could they really be leaving Seattle behind at the end of the season? They are in a good place right now with Zola and their relationship, but anything can change.
Even if they do decide that Boston's the best place for their future, that could always change. Someone is going to die in the finale, and others' lives are going to be in danger as well. Will Meredith or Derek be one of them? Could it be uncertain if they're both going to be around in season 9?
What about the dream home that fans have been hoping to see completed? Rhimes did say that "seeing the house at this point in time is really the moment in which they are trying to decide whether they're going to stay or go. You get to see the one room, the great room of the house, it's quite lovely ... It was important to show that and to show them at this moment in time, when in a weird way, they have everything." Will that moment come early in the episode only for something to happen to end the finale to have that all ripped away from them (or at least to have that happiness threatened)?
