Can a woman be a preacher of a Church?

I have been told what I feel is not true,

 but I would like to hear from you on this

topic. Can a woman be a preacher of a

Church? What do you think and what

facts do you have to support this.    This

is a real question and I would love to

know the facts behind your thoughts.

I've seen marvelous women preachers in real life but not from the church I grew up in. I grew up in a church (Conservative) that said the Bible says they can't be that, that women must be silent in the church, but that is being so unfairly selective of what's in the Bible to make that out of it.

I don't have any facts but I believe anyone who is lead by God and not the world or their own thoughts can be a voice for God

I think God has called both women and men to speak for Him to other people. In the Old Testament there were female judges and others who held a position of regard. Proverbs 31 describes a woman who handles her own business and is respected in the community. There are the stories of Esther, Ruth and others. I've also been in many a church in which the men believed that women should submit to the man's leadership, be it in the church or even in the home, right down to which day was best for her to do the grocery shopping on! So I think anyone, male or female, can potentially be either a good leader or a very poor one, in the church or in any other circumstances. I think anyone who feels they have a message to share should pray about it and only then share their beliefs.

I'm agnostic, but I believe anyone should feel free to preach their beliefs at their own church.

Our church does not have women preachers, but I know there are churches that do have them.

Think about sex whilst in church?? Not thought of it quite like that before. Though now that you mention it..does it really matter who is doing the preaching?

Exactly Wendy - that was what I was saying :-)) Who thinks of gender whilst at church? I certainly do not. It amazes me sometimes - these are supposed to be qualified pesonnel..people who are in direct communicado with the higher one - I don't think any qualification on this earth is going to solve the current gender crisis (shall we or shall we not allow females into ordination etc, etc...) - To me it is clear as day...you either have it or you don't and no one looks at gender for such answers...unless they're put into a position in order to make such choices...dilemmas. Humans huh?

as an ordained minister, i must say that i think a woman can be as good or as bad of a preacher as any man......i hope that i am able to be an example for others....i may not be a great preacher at all, but i am sincere, and was strongly led to this calling..........

I think they can be just as good as the men,, when my dad died, he preacher was a woman, and she was very good with the family, abit more sympathic to us and our needs.
I remember when I had to say something, I was up there shaking and crying,, yet I felt her hand on my back, like it was the hand of God helping me thru the whole thing,,

I agree that women can be "just as good" as men preachers. I know that all God's people can and should live their lives and therefore "preach by actions" to the world...all the world.
It depends on the church you go to or are affiliated with.

But I have no problem listening to a woman preacher. Some people in general have a hard time listening to any woman, let alone one being a preacher. For those people a man preacher would suit them best.

It's a cultural thing. Not many religious groups require women to leave their hair uncut, for example, but many feel that the advice not to let women preach should be followed. Part of the reason is that the generations before us paid more attention to what a man said. My generation of babyboomers is less likely to follow that. The generation after us should have an easier time with equality.
Personally, I've heard excellent sermons/homilies from Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopal female ministers.

You mean the Apostle Paul who advised Christians it was better not to marry? The same Apostle Paul who considered it disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair?
Or maybe you mean the Apostle Paul who said there is no male and female in the church, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. The same Apostle Paul who requested help for these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel.

...there were several female followers of Jesus, though they weren't called disciples in scripture, they were closely identified with either Jesus or his apostles.

...thinking of becoming a female preacher? Go for it. I don't think you'll be in trouble with Jesus or God for doing so.

Gods design is quite simple...and Perfect.

Slanderers love to twist Gods meanings, in effort to make Faith in Him appear as foolish as possible; fools listen.

Gods design is quite simple. Men are to be Leaders, Women are to assist him in that task. Far too Perfect and simple for the arrogant to comprehend.
