The rainbow is internationally known to symbolize proud-and-out homosexuality and equal rights for same-sex partners. However, a bigoted Christian pastor is calling on followers of Christ to "take back" the colorful symbol, and falsely attributed the faith as the originator of using it as a symbol. Good grief!
To be completely clear, the Christian religion is by no means the first belief system to use the rainbow as a symbol to their ideas and spiritual hopes. In fact, it's rather embarrassing even as a non-Christian to see a so-called speaker for several followers of a religion speak with such falsity without even bothering to check if he was correct. Throughout ancient mythological beliefs, the colorful light spectrum has been used to symbolize a myriad of ideas. The earliest known mythological use of the flamboyant image came from the Sumerians, who recognized it as an impending victory in battle. In Greek mythology, it was used to symbolize a mode of travel for the goddess Isis. So clearly Dr. Kenneth L. Hutcherson didn't do well in his history or anthropological studies, or simply forgot to research his own claims!
Of course some people believe that history began and end with the so-called Holy Bible, but that is simply not the case. There is nothing for the Christians to "take back" as this piece of symbolism is widely used and even more appropriately used by gay rights activists and those who support their equal rights. Obviously Noah wasn't the first person to see a rainbow and connect its beauty to something perceived as positive.
