What Do You Think?

I would love everyone's honest opinion about these two oil paintings. My sister in law and myself were at a thrift store having a half off sale because they have oodles of purses we are going to sell on ebay. Well anyway we decided to take a look around after 45 long minutes in the purse section( I am NOT a purse kind of girl lol), and we saw these two paintings done by the same artist. I love them especially the first one, my hubby says he wouldn't have them hanging in his house lol, but I love the first one and  basically bought the second one because it was by the same artist. So if you hate them or love them I would love your honest opinion on these.  As far as I can tell the signature says Joel O'Neil  2008. However if I hung them in my house the frames would have to go. I was also wondering if anyone has heard of this artist. Thanks all.

I like the first one which would go well in a frame made of metal with gears in the corners (look at a fossil brand watch to get the idea.)

The second one reminds of a cornucopie for some reason. Maybe properly framed it would be ok, although it is odd with a still life of a vase on top of a surreal background.
Maybe use the frame from your hubby's velvet Elvis painting?

I agree about the frame.

I would also add matting with a silver-pewter color on the inside and perhaps couple of colorthe colors thinly working down to the pewter-silver of colors topped by the copper.

I like them both, however I think that the second one needs a bare room to display.

In a couple of years your hubby will claim them when the painter will turn famous...

I'm sorry, these are way too bright for my home, I prefer more paintings that are more realistic.

Well, I'm going to be the odd duck...again! I like the 2nd one the best. It just appeals to me more. You are absolutely right about the frames, they have to go.

I'm not crazy about them, but they are bright and colorful and should draw attention.

did you google the artist?....or try asking a local gallery?

i like the use of color in both paintings......and agree they nedd a different frame and matting to look their best...

My brother googled the artist while we were at the store, we called him he found the artist and said his painting were going for around a hundred bucks. We haven't been able to find him on google since, very strange.

I haven't heard of the artist, and while I find both interesting I wouldn't hang them in my home. Maybe a room dedicated to art, or a gallery.

I do like the first one. The details and colors are very vibrant. I would choose a simple black frame both pictures.

They are both very colorful. I prefer the first one. I don't think I would hang them in my house unless I toned down a room to accommodate all that color.

I would hang the first one maybe in a gameroom or a less formal room. I like the colors, not keen on the second one.

Bright and colorful with lots of movement. Not my style, though. Perhaps the second was a gift for a new mother or family, though the jar looks rather tippy to me.

The first one is my favorite. Reminds me of stained glass.

I really like the first one, don't care for the second - nice wide modern plain black frame sure would work great on the first one.

Awww, they are both beautiful and full of life. I'd hang them in my home without even considering if they matched the wall paint or not. The artist is very talented. I also like the frames. What don't you like about the frames?

I don't care for the gold color of them in particular, my son came home from school and bought the top one he just loved it lol. So now I only have the bottom one to sell.

I like the top one. I agree with you, the frames need to go. The bottom one is kind of strange -- to me anyway. But as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" so I'm sure someone will love the the other painting. Sorry, I never heard of the artist.
