Police are investigating a new lead in the case of Etan Patz. The beautiful 6-year-old boy has been missing for 33 years since May 25, 1979, and he was the first child to appear on the side of a milk carton. The search for him has moved to the basement of a Manhattan apartment building at 127 Prince St.
The reason for the renewed search is that a cadaver dog got a hit in the basement, so authorities will dig up the floor in an effort to search for clues in the tragic disappearance of Etan Patz.
There is no doubt that it has been a terrible three decades for the boy's family and those working on the case. To not know what happened to him must be nearly unbearable. Hopefully this latest lead will help let his family know where he is, and perhaps they will finally get justice for him as well.
For a long time police believed that Jose Ramos had abducted and killed Etan Patz, but now they believe that it could have been a handyman who had befriended the 6-year-old the day before her disappeared. It is unbelievable that somebody took this child on the very first time he walked alone to the bus stop.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said, "It's a joint FBI- NYPD search for human remains clothing or personal effects. This process right here, this process that you're witnessing, will take upward of five days."
While five days is a long time, it is almost nothing compared to how long this family has been without their child. Hopefully they will have some type of answers soon.
