My 20 year old daughter brought me a joke the other day. It was the picture of a pregnant teenager. It said something along the lines of "1991 - a pregnant teen was ashamed and tried to hide it." Then next to that was another picture - "2011 - the teen says "Cool! Now I can audition for 16 and Pregnant!"
My daughter very seriously said to me, "That's true!"
Now, this daughter is not the brightest bulb in the pack to say the least, but this comment really sent me thinking...
Are kids really that influenced by reality TV? There has to be at least some that think like her or else the reality TV shows would go away right? No one would be interested if they didn't actually think they could achieve star status overnight, would they?
Is it really cool to be pregnant in high school now, because, and only because of the show "16 and Pregnant"?
If they are so influenced by these ridiculous shows, then why don't we make better ones? "Psycho Teens on Drugs Helping Puppies While in Rehab" or something like that. With this mentality, won't they then think... If they can help puppies, so can I! We should try it.
