Despite getting buff for his role in The Lucky One, Zac Efron insists, "I am far from a heartthrob." Tell that to all the teenage girls who drool over his image. Efron is baffled by the status. "That word kind of follows you around, but I don't know how exactly one earns it."
Even if he doesn't understand how he became the object of so many girls affection, Zac makes every effort to keep the Hollywood persona the girls love separate from his real life. "There's the Hollywood section and then there's real life. One of them is more of a show but it never overshadows real life for me," says Efron. "As long as you can draw a comparison between the two, one of which you know to be more important, you're good. For me, the choice is very easy. One is where I work, one is where I live."
For the family and friends who know Zac Efron outside of Hollywood, he is merely a likable "goofball." Despite who Efron is in reality, his performance in The Lucky One, complete with its steamy scenes and shirtless moment, he may be hard pressed to escape the heartthrob image.
