100 Years of Titanic

Tonight starts the 100the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. At 11:40 PM on April 14th, 1912 the Titanic struck an iceberg, mortally wounded. At 2:20AM April 15th, 1912, she slid beneath the waves, taking over 1500 souls with her, leaving 705 to morn them. The ship had only enough life boats for 1200 people and they were not filed to their capacity when launched. Over 2200 people were aboard on the maiden voyage, a ship that could have carried over 3300 people. At that time, the Titanic carried enough life boats required by law. In celebration of the 100th anniversary, James Cameron has re-released his epic film in 3-D (the film will turn 15 years old in December). Cameron also had a special on National Geographic on the Titanic and tonight ABC ran a new miniseries that concludes tomorrow night. On Sunday the History channel will have a new documentary of the century mark. Other movies to look for are A Night To Remember, the 1953 Titanic, the 1996 Mini Series with George C Scott, and the 1979 S0S Titanic. TV shows like Voyagers and The Time Tunnel took us to that faithful night. There is good book called the Titanic Conspiracies.  And on youtube, I found what seems to be the first ever Titanic movie, Saved From The Titanic, that featured an actress who survived the ordeal. Another, and strange, film is 1943 Titanic from Germany, a propaganda movie where the hero of the film is a german fighting the british from driving the ship to fast in dangerous waters (there was a documentary on that tonight also.
