Pippa Middleton has become rather famous for her chic sense of style that's a cross between simple sophistication and classic, yet trendsetting edge—much like her sister, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. But, at a recent birthday party in Paris for her friend Viscount Arthur de Soultrait, Pippa stepped out in a rather unusual ensemble that was certainly statement-making. Indeed, it was classic too, as in paying homage to centuries-old period costume. However, no need to ring the fashion police. For this particular event, she was right on trend, as the entire guest list played to an aristocratic, 18th and 19th century theme. And did they ever dress to impress!
Pippa outfitted herself in a rather garish disguise that was a cross between sexy French maid and a Victorian-era gown, albeit a cropped one. She paired her bright pink and gold brocade minidress that had some serious pouf sleeves with black leggings (with lace at the bottom, no less!) and gold shoes. Her costume may have been one of the most colorful of the crowd, but she skipped the elaborate ball gowns, bustles, wigs, and overwrought updos that some partygoers put on.
And the style story doesn't stop there! As Daily Mail notes, Pippa Middleton threw on a leather motorcycle jacket over her costume for the after party at Chez Raspoutine. Talk about mixing time periods: Victorian glam and '80s grunge. The real mystery, though, is how did those extravagant sleeves fit into that cropped, tight jacket! Perhaps they were detachable!
De Soultrait is a French aristocrat himself, perhaps explaining the fancy schmancy theme of his birthday party. The real irony is that he's the fashion designer behind Vicomte A., the ultimate prepster line that features rainbow-hued sportswear, lots of polos, and breezy yacht-like attire. But there was certainly not a shred of his designs at this affair, although Pippa Middleton perhaps did pay homage to his brand with her colorful exit.
