version one -school!

September 1969

It is the first day of school at Chub Lake PS. Twelve new kindergarteners are getting their first taste of education. The morning class was especially excited about the occasion. Young Karen and her best friend Kelly are looking forward to finger painting, sandbox and story time. No way, says master John Walb, snack time is going to be my favorite part of the day. The teacher, one Miss Zemmiar has a fun year planned and the kids will get the chance to participate in the all-school winter carnival which is the highlight of every school year. This is the first time these children are away from home and there are bound to be some tears in fact I saw Karen hand mommy a tissue and reassure her that she would be home for lunch.

Version 2 -My first day of school-

Kindergarten here I come. I am so excited about this. I was too excited to sleep last night and I am a little tired but happy to be going off to school with the big kids. The teacher is really nice and she welcomed us into  the class.  I can't wait to finger paint and play in the little kitchen they have set up. The sandbox is cool but Kelly and I play in mine all the time.  I see John in the corner already, he tried to start snack time early and the teacher gave him what she called a time out.  Miss Zemmiar starts the day off with a story and we all sit on the carpet to listen. The next activity is to visit the various stations in the room. The boys head to the sandbox but Kelly and I are in the play kitchen making breakfast for the dolls. John started a fight in the sandbox and ended up in the corner again during snack time. He did get to eat but was all alone because he can't play well with others. The morning goes fast and before we know it, it is home time and we line up to be dismissed. I had so much fun and I can't wait to come back tomorrow.
