I'd Rather Be a Purple Organic Cow Than a Regular Holstein

Cows live
in green pastures
chew their cud; swish their tail
tilt their face to the shining sun
Organic cows live three times as long as conventional ones
First she’s a heifer, then gives birth
After weaning, she’s milked
twice each day
Got milk?

If organic cows live longer then organic people should as well. I try to eat as much organic food as I can and grow our garden organically. Hope I live healthier if not longer.

I'm working on a magazine story right now about an organic dairy. The interview I had with the dairy said cows raised organically live 8 - 10 years and are milked twice a day. The regular cows live 2 - 3 years and are milked 3 times a day. I need to verify that for the magazine before I include it, but that's what he said!

Thanks for sharing that, Susan; it is both encouraging and sad as regards how the cows are treated and what is being passed on to people as a result. We do eat as much organically as possible, too. I even joined a community organic garden this year.

Aren't all cows organic? I've never seen an inorganic cow.

because of syllable count, I wrote it that way, but more accurately it would be organically-fed cows.

Kevin, thanks. You can see my comment to Jax above about what an organic cow is.

But I still have to finish my research on what it means to be an "organic cow." My article's due next week and my editor is a real task-master. (joking about that) But the deadline is firm.
