Actress Alicia Silverstone created a stir recently when she posted video pictures of herself feeding her son by first chewing his food for him. The mouth to mouth technique shocked many people. However, Alicia says they should just "get over it!"
The former Clueless star says the method has been around of a long time. She also claims that thousands of mothers use the technique. She calls it a weaning process.
Somewhat nonplussed by the negative feedback, the actress claims her son loves being fed that way. In fact she insists he "literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I'm eating".
At the time the video got shot, the meal was miso-infused vegetables. It sounds healthy enough for mom, but was it a good choice for junior? Some people question that.
Whether she meant to or not, Alicia Silverstone stirred up a firestorm of controversy. It will be interesting to see how far it goes.
While the process may seem repugnant to many, it would be interesting to see if Silverstone can back up her claims. Are thousands of people really using the technique and, if so, where, when and why? Only a bit of research, including talking with health care providers, can decide if the actress is on target or just a bit out there.
