Five to eight men yelled "Trayvon" before beating a man walking home early Saturday morning. The victim, a white man, was walking home from midtown bars in Gainesville, Florida when a group of black men in a "mid-sized vehicle" approached him and stopped, according to the local news.
The 27-year-old victim most likely will have permanent damage to the left side of his face; he had injuries to his left eye, and other abrasions and cuts. The police spokeswoman said that the "victim's injuries were consistent with being jumped by a group" and continues, "We do believe that the crime was racially motivated". No arrests have been made in this case. The thugs who beat this man are cowards and the fact that they use Trayvon's name in the beating just shows how disgusting they are. Martin's family would probably be horrified that the tragic death of their son would be used in racially motivated attacks.
George Zimmerman, a Hispanic man, killed the 17-year-old African-American while conducting a neighborhood watch who has claimed that the killing was done in self-defence. While that case has not been fully investigated, it has become racially charged, with the New Black Panthers Party calling for a bounty on Zimmerman and inciting a bloody race war. The case has inspired marches around the country demanding an arrest.
In Sanford Florida last week, two black men beat a white man with a hammer. The man is fighting for his life in the hospital, although "there was no indication that the victim in that case was targeted because of his race." Really?
Why does the mainstream media push the idea that Martin was targeted because of his race? It is irresponsible and not proven, by any stretch. There have been many cases where race was not given in media reports. The AP, the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, and the LA Times have all censored racial descriptions when reporting crime at one point or another or due to policy. Why are there different mainstream media standards for the Martin story?
It would be very appropriate for leaders in the black community, as well as President Obama, who has already chimed in on this case, to strongly denounce any violence in the name of Trayvon Martin.
The mainstream media has not reported either of these stories.

No one is saying anything but when Zimmerman is arrested. Okay, what if his story is backed by the evidence and he isn't arrested, ever. Then what?
I believe there will be more anger than when Casey Anthony was released... and she is basically in hiding too. I have no more clue how she wasn't found guilty of manslaughter than Zimmerman not being charged... but people can't take the law in their own hands and it have a good outcome. Sure I think Casey did it, sure I feel for the little girl and I think she should have been put in jail... but this is the way our system is set up. I would no more back someone hurting Casey.. nor do I think anyone should hurt Zimmerman. If he is arrested... then he has to face a judge and jury ... who will decide his face based on the facts and the evidence.
I think because of Media influence, we are being affected... and feel the courts let us down in these two cases... but I wonder who is behind this. I mean, the manipulation of what was said, and then all the photos of Treyvon as a small child.. that was clearly meant to make people enraged. When I first heard it I was angry too... I do think something more is going on here.
What I pray is that if he is guilty he will be found guilty, not by the media, not by the thugs offering rewards, not by the people eating popcorn and playing armchair quarterbacks, but by the courts. If it can be proven IN a court of law then I hope he never sees the light of day again.
I guess I can't expect the irrational to act rationally. And if they really wanted justice for Trayvon, they would find out what the family wanted and try to honor this young man in the best way possible. His parents have already denounced the violence. Then, to attack innocent people, and cloak it in some pretense of doing it for Trayvon is despicable. They should call it what it is, an act of terrorism and be treated as such.
...to attack innocent people, and cloak it in some pretense of doing it for Trayvon is despicable. Agree, Gloria.
I just wonder with all the things that happen why someone in the media decided to report the way they did and call it a "racist" killing by a "white". Publishing those photos made me think he killed a 12 year old. Sorry... I felt it was not accurate as they did not show Treyvon at his current age... and that was the media. It was wrong no matter what he looked like, my point was that is what they put out there and I wondered why they did that.
Why would his black friend be saying he's not a "racist"? Why would he even have black friends if he is a "racist"?
This is a tragedy. Trayvon has died .. and Zimmerman was not arrested.
I am sure Trayvon's parents would be horrified by people hurting other people avenging their son. All they wanted to do was put pressure on the authorities to arrest Zimmerman.. I well understand that and think they should have let someone sort this out in court. I think there concern was that the person who killed there son was not arrested because it was OKAY to do what he did because their son was BLACK... and the Florida courts were turning a blind eye.
They want justice, not violence.
