I wonder what unlucky GM executive will be selected to tell President Obama that the car he promoted so hard, the technology he favors so much, is a dead dog when it comes to sales. Will this unfortunate person decide to tell him by phone, or maybe by email. I know of compaines firing individuals by email, why not automotive lemons?
Here's how it stacks up right now:
Chevy Cruise @ $20,000 per unit, six-month sales -- 20,000 units
Chevy Volt @ $40,000 (before $7,500 tax credit) per unit, (gulp, this is pathetic) six-month sales -- 1,000 units
And with GM shutting down the Volt line for several weeks due to lack of sales.. well, the ObamaCar is in trouble.
So here is what I see happening:
GM big wigs scrambling during this down time to come up with a reason to bail out on the Volt. And deciding on how to approach the president.
And secondly, those people currently working on the Volt assembly line looking for a way to bail out... err.. "bid out".. to work on the Cruise.
