Actresses rarely get a second chance to make a comeback but Madhuri Dixit is no ordinary actress! After the failure of her first attempt to rejoin the Hindi film industry she's set to try again, and she has two exciting new films under her belt to prove it.
Bollywood's dancing queen of the '90s is ready to take the industry by storm in Dedh Ishqiya, the sequel to the runaway hit Ishqiya which starred Vidya Balan, Naseruddin Shah, and Arshad Warsi. The possibility of Madhuri being cast in the much-anticipated film has been talked about for a while, but she was careful to deny her involvement until she actually inked the deal.
Her second film is just as interesting--she'll be playing the role made famous by Nicole Kidman in an official Hindi remake of Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge. Noted choreographer Remo D'Souza is at the helm, and has indicated that Madhuri may even do her own singing in the film, just like Nicole!
Considering Madhuri Dixit's fame as a top-class dancer (she's so well known as a great Kathak dancer that the American sitcom The Big Bang Theory worked her into an episode, with Sheldon commenting that "Aishwarya Rai is a poor man's Madhuri Dixit") it seems only fitting that her co-star in Moulin Rouge will be Prabhu Deva.
Madhuri's previous attempt at a comeback was with Aaja Nachle, a film that flopped at the box office (which was unfortunate as it was one of the better films put out that year). Here's hoping that Madhuri can make the most of her lucky third inning with her new projects!
