Campfire ~ a tetractys for Mindful Poetry MP2012

Dark

Azure

Emblazoned

With zigzagging

Lanterns: sparks over an evening campfire.

Embers and flames carry the sparks aloft

We hear the loud

Whippoorwill

Nature

Sings

Cool

Zephirs

Scarce noticed

The fire is warm

And we share our warmth under the blanket.

This makes me look forward to summer. I know folks can camp in winter, but up here in the north, we can't also hear a whippoorwill in the wild winter.

We may not hear a whippoorwill, but we still camp in the winter.....not always my husband's brightest idea though. I hate waking up to frozen water and cold boots.

Love it! In addition to the vivid images your words evoke, I love the shapes in your poem. I'm pretty sure I see a campfire with rising smoke and a tent. Tweeted!

Your poem evokes many nights spent camping in the woods...we did a lot of that when we lived in SC and the kids were growing up...

Great imagery, John...you took me back to a long ago time and place.

Three times is a charm. A lovely image if camping out under the stars. I can almost heat the logs popping and the embers rustling as the sparks explode into the night...
