What President Obama said is true. He as an African American can relate to the feeling of being firstly judged by the color of his skin then on his character, as it looks like Zimmerman did of Trayvon. That is a fact that many white people cannot understand.

But now that NBC has admitted to editing the 911 tape, and we now know that it was the 911 dispatcher who asked Zimmerman if Martin was white, hispanic, or black, we cannot, nor could we ever, say that Zimmerman killed Martin because he WAS black.

As an aside, I'm OK with demanding an actual investigation of Zimmerman's killing of that young man. His actions as described, early on or modified by everybody who seems to want the shooting to be OK, just don't seem to add up to self defense for me. Still, let's have an actual investigation and quit beating each other up over an event none of us witnessed.

Exactly, Chuck. I never said Zimmerman wasn't guilty. Until all the facts and evidence come out, it's all just speculation. Some are taking it to the extreme and it's not helping the situation or the investigation at all. The media's complicit in this whole mess.

You're right, Vicky. NBC went as far as to edit a tape to make it look like Zimmerman specifically targeted Martin because he was black. They already let the cat out of the bag and even when they admitted they edited it, Obama's fan base is STILL saying the same thing. It's too late, the damage is already done.

Zimmerman's supporters at the onset stated that Zimmerman did not know that Trayvon was black, we all know that was a lie. The editing of the tape was 100 percent wrong, but did bring to light the fact Zimmerman "did know" the un-armed kid's race.

Obama speaking out about this case before any of the real facts or evidence was known, was another campaign ploy. Unfortunately, it backfired and all it did was ratchet up the extremists, who are part of Obama's fanbase.

second, the first report I read here on Gather was from a news source that claimed Zimmerman white.

It's funny, but around the time of the AZ immigration laws, the left was calling all white people who supported Brewer, racist against Latinos. Now they're claiming that white people are racist against blacks because the shooter was an Hispanic male. Must be hard for them to keep up. Next whites will be racist against Obama's half, his white half. But at least they're consistent with their hypocrisy.

"Hispanic" is a kind of meaningless designation when you consider that anyone from Spain (Hispaniola) is Hispanic. Americans tend to assume at least some native Central, South American or Puerto Rican/Caribbean history goes with the designation. Not necessarily so. I imagine that for George's mother it is probably the case. However, Zimmerman is Germanic (which might also include some native genes depending on the generation), so we've got Roryann's "white half," but for George Zimmerman in this case, not Obama.
