Deadliest Catch Season 8 will start on April 10. As a prelude to the new season, Discovery Channel treated fans to a recap of Season 7, called "Best of Season 7."
It was a season of change, a season where they said goodbye to a captain loved by all his fellow mariners; Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie. Deadliest is the true adjective describing the job these men who start out in Dutch Harbor, Alaska facing the vicious and unforgiving Bering Sea. His two sons Josh the elder and Jake the younger, will need lots of angels on their shoulders if they are to stay in the business.![]()
At the beginning of the king crab season, the captains chart their course to see where the crab are hiding. On the Cornelia Marie, Phil's boat, now partly owned by his sons the captain is Derrick Rey, who immediately sends someone in to check Jake's urine to test if he is on drugs; Jake is clean.
Greenhorn skipper, Elliott Neese of the Ramblin' Rose is new to the show as is the Seabrooke captained by Scott Campbell Jr. wants to carve his name in the annals of Deadliest Catch. Word from his processor is not good, if he stays out to sea, his crab could die and leave them without their catch.
On the Northwestern, Captain Sig Hansen, Wizard Captain Keith Colburn, Time Bandit Captain Johnathan Hillstrand and Kodiak Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski are headed into the approaching storm. Waves over fifty feet came crashing down on the decks of these boats.
The Northwestern had a great first haul; 130,000 pounds of red king crab and lost all power on the boat. Fortunately, Edgar Hansen came to the rescue and saved the boat from crashing into the dock.
On the Cornelia Marie, the luck is running out for blue crabs. To add insult to injury, Derrick tells Josh and Jake that their father did them a huge disservice by not teaching them how to run the boat, not just be deck hands. Finally, Derrick finds drug paraphernalia on the boat and calls the police to have Jake arrested when the boat comes in with their catch. At the Dutch Harbor Airport, the state trooper meets up with Jake and they talk. He refused to take a drug test, and the police could not make him do so. Derrick was fired and is taking his anger out on Jake.
On the Time Bandit, no strangers to pranks, they set off some Chinese lanterns to frighten their old buddy, Sig Hansen of the Northwestern and for forty-five minutes had this old salt in the palm of their hands.
On the Northwestern, Edgar tells his brother Sig that he has had enough crabbing for his lifetime. This has been the family legacy they inherited, but it has taken its toll on Edgar's body for all the seasons of Deadliest Catch.
