Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian has been showing off her burgeoning baby bump in a bikini while vacationing with her family, including sisters Kim Kardashian and Kendall and Kylie Jenner and mom and step dad, Kris and Bruce Jenner, in the dreamy Dominican Republic. But she also recently revealed something else: sunny highlights. Her lighter locks are a rather big departure for the dark-haired mama-to-be, and she recently defended her decision to go for the new color (while still pregnant!) via her blog on Celebuzz.
Kourtney, of course, isn't the first Kardashian sister to walker on the brighter side--Kim and Khloe have both experimented with varying shades of lighter brown and blonde, from simple low lights to full-on platinum. However, perhaps unlike her more daring sisters, Kourtney Kardashian doesn't change up her hue all that often, admitting that she hasn't "touched [her] hair color in over 10 years and thought it was time for some fun..."
Indeed, the photos that have been captured of her new 'do really are quite pretty. Her highlights are relatively subtle, just adding hints of lighter brown and some serious glossy tone. They really do brighten up her complexion and enhance her pregnancy glow. Speaking of, expectant mothers are often cautioned to avoid coloring their hair due to the chemicals that can be absorbed through the scalp. But Kourtney Kardashian was quick to, ahem, "highlight" this issue and the precautions she took.
"I did research about doing anything to the color of my hair while pregnant and followed all of the guidelines from my doctor... I highlighted my hair (which is considered the safest form of hair color while pregnant) and NOT to the root, so nothing ever touched my scalp. I also used products that did not contain ammonia. It is also recommended to be in a well-ventilated area, as well as being at least in your second trimester, and I followed both of those rules..." the reality TV star confirmed.
Kudos to Kourtney! Not only did she score a sassy, updated look, she also used her new mane attraction as the platform for this casual yet educational form of a public service announcement for her blog readers. Hopefully, she continues having more "fun" as a lighter brunette. Perhaps true blonde is the next step... after her little daughter is born, that is!
