I have amended this article to reflect the evdence that Bob and Ruth were touring the home of Andrew Jackson, and not visiting the splendid Hermitage Hotel.
The original title reflects the author's manner of speech, "We loved the Hermitage in Nashville".

The Hermitage Hotel is a landmark of Nashville Tennessee; the elegant retreat is located not far from the Capital and state office buildings.Â
The lobby provides a lovely place to take refreshment, which may include nourishment from the great restaurants within the hotel.
About ten years ago, I had occasion to stay there for a business meeting, and retain a very happy memory of the splendid appointments and the gracious service of the place.
You can see shots of the luxurious lobby and rooms here:
In 1939, however, Bob and Ruth were likely to be visiting "The Hermitage", the handsome country home of Andrew Jackson. The Hermitage is located about 20 miles outside the city of Nashville.
Especially interesting is the series of notations on the reverse, an example of what every collector of old paper hopes to find.
 The notations read:
Bob & Ruth at “The Hermitage†Nashville, Tenn
Mathews had this and when she died
Her sister sent it back to meÂ
Got back 11-4-68
I am sorry that the writer of the notation related to "getting back" the photo did not entrust the memento to someone who would care for it.Â
