Jennifer Lawrence, star of The Hunger Games, has been taking a lot of flack over her gorgeous and curvy body—is she too well-rounded to play the underfed tribute warrior Katniss Everdeen in the futuristic adventure? Fiercely loyal fans say a resounding "No!" reports MTV.
And the book? Author Suzanne Collins lets the character describe herself. "I stand straight, and while I'm thin, I'm strong. The meat and plants from the woods combined with the exertion it took to get them have given me a healthier body than most of those I see around me." The description seems to work. Hollywood is full of young actresses, thinner than Jennifer Lawrence, but nothing says Katniss must be gaunt. All those squirrels she shoots in the eye bring in plenty of calories.
A New York City film critic started the "too curvy-too sexy" fuss, but the fans are speaking louder. And ticket sales agree. If there is just a touch of roundness to Jennifer Lawrence's cheeks, put that down to vibrant good health—and maybe the rich food and wine the producers stuff the kids with before the games. The fact that the actress is 21, not 16, may play a bigger role, but Hollywood says, and fans seem to agree, that Jennifer Lawrence fits the role as if it were written for her. Possibly the next one will be. In the meantime, let no one turn this into a weight issue. It's a movie! And may the odds always be in her favor.
