Yes, you read that right. Eddie Murphy will be playing the third brother in a sequel to Twins, also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. With the much talked about announcement of Anchorman 2, sequels seem to be all the rage right now, but is the world really excited about Triplets?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to the 1988 film Twins is definitely in development with its original stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito attached to reprise their roles as brothers. Only this time around the two mis-matched brothers would find out they have a third brother to be played by Eddie Murphy. The original film made over $200 million at the box office and cost a mere $15 million to make.
There's no doubt the price tag of Triplets will be a bit higher, considering the paychecks of Schwarzenegger and Eddie Murphy alone, so it will remain to be seen if the sequel can hit box office gold as well. If the film is anywhere near as successful as the first film it could be the comeback vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger's film career, but it could also help the lackluster track record Murphy has been hitting lately.
The question is, does anyone really want to see yet another '80s film rehash? At the very least what Triplets has going for it is that it's a sequel and not a remake, but still as far as sequel news goes, Anchorman 2 sounds a lot more appealing than Twins Part 2.
