We let one family member a year choose where they want to go for vacation over the summer and it is my middle child's turn this year. He wants to go to New York, New York. After pricing out the costs of hotels and considering we have 5 people I have found the prices quite disheartening. We only have so much to spend and with the hotels in the city there being so expensive the hotel fees alone would eat up much of our budget. Also we will have to park our car which I know will cost us a lot of money per day as well.
I found a Residence Inn about 7 miles outside of the city. The hotel looks very nice and is about half the price of most of the hotels in the city. We will also have a lot more space for the 5 of us there and a kitchen. We will also get free Wi-fi and free breakfast daily which we likely would not get at most hotels in the city.
My husband heard however that just going in to the city can cost a lot of money as you have pay a certain amount to go over the bridges and such to get in there.
Does anyone know how much it costs to get in to New York city with all the tolls etc.? Apparently you can take a bus from the hotel in to the city as well. Is that a good option or is that not safe? Any advice would be appreciated. The hotel is in East Rutherford New Jersey, so if anyone knows anything about that area please let me know. Could we get in by train or ferry and would it be cheaper than driving in and parking the car?
