Toronto is again going to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs and fans are getting tired of watching teams with less talent and support make the post-season.
Next up for the Maple Leafs is the upcoming NHL Draft and while the team has finished the year in a tailspin, adding a couple of youngsters and veteran free agents could have this franchise heading upwards and possibly making a run in the Eastern Conference next season.
The latest mock draft from The Hockey Writers is out and it has Toronto looking to add a forward. But this year, there are a number of quality players to choose from and making the right choice is imperative if this team wants to succeed.
Filip Forsberg from Sweden is coming off a gold-medal and his performance at the WJC has shown scouts he is ready to play at a higher level. Forsberg is talented on both ends of the ice, but it's his play making ability with others that has him projected as a top 10 pick this summer. Toronto could decide to add a bigger forward, someone like Brendan Gauce, but this team needs offensive play-makers and Forsberg fits their need.
GM Brian Burke has tried to make deals to build a winner in Toronto, but the Maple Leafs need better players through the draft to build a consistent winning NHL franchise. And with the right moves this summer, fans of the team could cheer on their Maple Leafs in next season's playoffs.
