A recent poll asked if Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart should star in the film of the popular novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. The novel's protagonists are very similar to Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, but the plot is...well, complicated. The poll's results were surprising.
Fifty Shades of Grey is a popular "mommy porn" novel--whatever that is--that is now on Amazon's best seller list. Universal and Focus Features reportedly just bought the film rights to the novel for $5 million, so it's definitely headed to the big screen. Since the book originally began as a work of "alternate universe Twilight fan fiction," some celebrity websites think it would be a perfect vehicle for Robsten's first post-Twilight collaboration. Fifty Shades of Grey chronicles the love story of a billionaire named Christian Grey and a young woman named Anastasia Steele. He loves her; she loves him. There's only one problem. It seems "Christian [wants] Ana to be his 'submissive' in a Bondage-Discipline/Dominant-Submissive/Sado-Masochistic relationship." Oops. Seems like someone slept through Logic 101. How can these 2 characters be "in love" if they're on totally different sexual wave lengths? Plus, this story has already been told in a classic French erotic novel by Pauline Reage called The Story of O. Whatever. Twihards who have read the novel will immediately recognize similarities between Fifty Shades of Grey and the Twilight Saga. For example, Christian has an adopted family, and Anastasia has a male BFF named Jose. And of course, Twilight's clingy, accident prone, self-sacrificing virgin, Bella Swan, was the perfect portrait of a female masochist. But will the story work as simply a love/lust story without the undead, the werewolves, and all the other trappings of the supernatural? Who knows? But apparently, a lot of RPattz and KStew's fans want to find out.
A Hollywood Life poll revealed that 74.79 percent of the respondents voted: "Yes!" to the question: "Are Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart good choices for the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele?"
Looks like the ball's in Robsten's court, although they might get a little bored since they'll actually be playing Edward and Bella once again, albeit minus the fangs and contact lenses.
What do you think?
