Hello,
Â
The following article caused me to write a comment and share it with a soldier who has lost two friends to suicide.
"More than 1,100 U.S. servicemen and women killed themselves between 2005 and 2009." -Army Announces Suicide Prevention Study. Military.com
My response to:Â Lance Cpl. Nicholas Neighbors.
Â
Hope is the keyword! The ONLY way to get hope is to force conversations! At times, the suicidal person will even be affected by the thought of being "dependent" upon conversation. Why can't they explain their feelings? Why can't another understand?
Â
In truth, I believe all have considered suicide. For some, it may be a passing glimpse of time, for others it may happen after their first divorce, for some it may happen if they lose a loved one, and some may consider suicide after being abused physically, sexually, or emotionally, but I believe we all "consider" it. On the other hand, most do not want to "associate" and believe "tough love" is the best policy. Even the person experiencing pain feels that way. Well, I disagree! Instead, I believe we have to talk, and I also agree that you are making a major change in this world!
Â
Although counselors are "trained", they are not truly "trained". Our society is so focused on "perfection" that most are afraid to tell the truth! Ever heard someone talk about another's perfect marriage while saying their marriage has problems? Later the other couple's "perfect" marriage falls apart. How many counselors of suicidal thoughts have considered suicide? Would they admit it to a suicidal person?
Â
To make matters worse, each person sees the world differently when in a suicidal thought process. As soldiers well know, it is virtually impossible to have a "civilian" understand your troubles. Although other Veterans have an "idea", only your squad truly knows your experiences. Still, the "individual" is the only person who "knows" how he or she felt at a specific moment in time. I believe the same is true for the suicidal person but the thought process "seems" illogical. Why? because they desire death more than life.
Â
A suicidal person might look at nature and not "process" the beauty! A suicidal person loses all  "love" of colors, taste, conversation, sharing, etc! A suicidal person has to repeat the love of colors, the love of the taste of a pop, the love of sharing information, the love of learning, the love of plants, flowers, birds, trees, bees, planes, etc. to get out of the rut. "It is the little things that keep us going!" Who originally said that? Was he or she suicidal? The suicidal person has to remind themselves Every Second that the flowers, trees, clouds, etc. are beautiful and there is a reason to Live!
Â
You are NOT ALONE!

HealCam
As a whistleblower from Abbott Laboratories, I have experienced and continue to experience sociopaths who use directional audio, direct communication, metaphorical language, and allegorical layering to bully. In addition, criminal activity from "friends of Abbott Laboratories" caused me to spend one night in ICU, two weeks in the hospital, and six months on therapy. Prior to hospitalization, I used my chemical engineering and biological sciences degrees to research my "symptoms" and determine my medical condition. Afterwards, I visited the Emergency Department and shared my findings, which lead to imaging, hospitalization, surgery, and, eventually, my life being spared. I attribute my success to God as well!
When I was looking for information, I used "trusted" resources but my education allowed me to realize what was trusted. I have created articles on various topics and discussed some of those resources. Sadly, many people do not have such knowledge. In these cases, connecting with a more informed patient, "peer", would be quite beneficial. As a Whistleblower, I wished someone would understand my experiences. Sadly, most law-abiding "citizens" do not expect a corporation to murder, which places a victim in a precarious position; "Criminals" are attracted to such a possibility. In these cases, sociopaths take advantage of the victim. I believe the "HealCam" resource would provide many patients a needed support system. A support system that is missed by many who do not understand their situation. At times, we all need someone to talk to but few have someone they can truly trust. As such, we have become a society that "bottles up" feelings and believe in the greatest con in the "World". "Dude, you are so negative! Think positively!" The latter works when you are not the "victim" but falls apart once you become a victim. Obviously, "victim" is relative.

With that said, I would like to add the following links to all of my posts. I hope others will copy and paste the same into their posts as well. The best way to end corruption is to discuss corruption. At the root of most criminal enterprises are corrupt police, citizens, and politicians. The latter are grandmas, grandpas, fathers, mothers, police, church deacons, etc. Be warned, the corrupt people in your environment could begin harassing you.
Some Information and Brief References about Whistleblowers:
• Wikileaks and "What is a Whistleblower?"
Much of the "legal" debate about "whistleblower laws", which includes lobbyist, is the balance between organizational leadership responsibility, who should receive the first report, and the role of a whistleblower. As Mr. Gayl, who is a whistleblower that saved soldier's lives, mentions, GAP is an "outsider", and he shows frustration with his "organizations" ability to handle the complaint effectively. In some instances, a whistleblower may be "blowing the whistle" for unethical reasons. If their "complaint", after proper investigation, is deemed inappropriate, the organization should have an authority to "reprimand" or "retaliate" against the employee. Sadly, many organizations and criminals take advantage of big hearts, balanced people, and ethical beliefs. We see this in regular crime, which includes corporate crime as well. On many occasions, corporations work to create "loopholes" that make a law ineffective. Many people have died because of corporate irresponsibility. Although I am an advocate for corporations, I believe in ethical processes.
I love my country, but we have a problem. Spoiled Americans will kill for sport and bullying is an example. Another term for bullying is "gang stalking", which may be more appropriate, but the legal term may be the defined term of "bullying". Some corporate employees and "friends of organizations" use harassment, "bullying or stalking", and believe it is not that bad, but, in truth, it is considered emotional torture-adults and children should refrain. If an adult "bullies", a child will follow their example.

As many know, a Multi-national Study by World Health Organization (1) reports that abused women and men believe "emotional abuse" is worse than physical abuse because it causes life-long psychological trauma and is virtually impossible to prove. The inability to "prove" is why many "pillars" will engage. In fact, corrupt societies are breeding grounds for such activity.

Why engage in activity that can increase the numbers? By the way, the numbers cause increased "disability" claims in the USA and Canada. As we know, women have a tendency to lust after the "bad boy" mentality, but most don't want to marry the "bad boy".

"Males do not represent two discrete populations, heterosexual and homosexual. The world is not divided into sheep and goats. Not all things are black nor all things white. It is a fundamental of human taxonomy that nature rarely deals with discrete categories. Only the human mind invents categories and tries to force facts into separated pigeon-holes. In my opinion, "we" do not know if it is a sin. I do not believe any know what God believes. If such a thought keeps you from committing suicide and heaven gives you "hope", then so be it. On the other hand, there are many victims of suicide who are religious and want to spend time with their loved one in heaven when it is their time to go. Personally, I believe the two thought processes have the same underlying connection. You do not want to "commit" because you believe it is a "sin" and "Carol" does not want to believe God punishes those who commit because that implies that her son has "sinned". As we know, sinning may send one to hell.
I have been taught the same. Suicide equals hell. According to some logic, suicide denotes evil. Therefore, the deceased is evil and spending time in hell. As I mentioned, I do not know what God believes but I do not believe all completed suicidal persons are evil. Why?
I will us schizophrenia as an example because it is near and dear to my heart. Although the National Institute of Mental Health believes schizophrenia is caused by nature and nurture, genetics and environmental stressors, the latter is closer to be proven by recent research that appears to prove a link between abnormal genes and a stress chemical that is not produced by those genes (I am pretty sure it is not the same mRRN; tRNA; etc). For schizophrenia to potentially manifest, both conditions must be present. If present, shortened and disorganized neuron connections occur. The latter may happen in the case of an abused baby. As such, that child may have severe symptoms of schizophrenia at a very early age. Please note that we cannot generalize that all schizophrenics were "abused" as children because there may be other possibilities that produce schizophrenia, and "late-onset" schizophrenia develops in the 30-40's as well. In fact, the latter is the connection that the NIMH drew. Precipitating stressful events seem to trigger schizophrenia.
Sadly, most people in society are grossly misinformed about schizophrenics, which the NIMH denotes as the most debilitating disease. Family members consider them lazy; society consider them completely illogical and violent; and there is an opinion that schizophrenics have "multiple" personalities since they, on average, hear voices. Like most situations, the "average" grouping of humans will "create" understanding in areas that they do not understand and, as such, propagate misunderstanding.
Why did I mention the above? Personally, I do not believe God developed schizophrenia to "challenge" a "special" "sub-population" of humans for entrance in heaven. If true, the criteria to enter must be skewed because schizophrenics and other mental disorders have extremely high suicide rates! :(
I hope a system is in place to instruct the spouses if they should recognize certain signs.
Thanks Chris.
Sadly, many spouses become frustrated because they don't understand; the soldier does not understand; and, in many ways, society does not understand.
Mental illness can be quite debilitating. Although I agree that "all" suicidal persons may not have a mental disorder, I do believe, as the Global Assessment Functioning Scale states, that a suicidal person is not functioning at full capacity. In fact, the GAF Scale places a suicidal person at the range of 41-50 out of 100. With that said, experts agree that the GAF is not necessarily an accurate representation of a persons "functioning" capability. In other words, the suicidal patient may not appear suicidal and significantly dysfunctional. Still, the suicidal person is probably considered "mentally ill". During such periods of mental illness, the sun might cause a dull persistent pain, a shower might cause the same, and the patient may actually "see" colors but not "experience" the colors. It is quite odd actually. The color green looks like grey, the color grey looks like whitish, and the color red may truly provoke angst. All the later plus more can make the suicidal person "dull"; irritable; withdrawn; etc.
Interestingly, researchers have been using PET and fMRI to actually show how different areas of the brain will react during hypnosis. Yes, "hypnosis" really happens! In these studies, one completed by the National Academies (see below), the researchers have shown how auditory and visual hallucinations can be mapped. Interestingly, different areas correspond to "real" auditory versus induced hallucinations. The induced hallucinations excite similar areas that are seen in schizophrenics who hear auditory hallucinations as well. In another study, the authors showed that one could be hypnotized to see grey-scale when color is introduced and the same area of the brain is mapped when either color or grey scale is introduced. When told that a color picture is grey, the intensity of the mapped area decreases. The regions seem to be affected by auditory instruction. With that said, the authors do stipulate a difference between left and right regions as well when the subject is hypnotized.
"RESULTS: When subjects were hypnotized, color areas of the left and right hemispheres were activated when they were asked to perceive color, whether they were actually shown the color or the gray-scale stimulus. These brain regions had decreased activation when subjects were told to see gray scale, whether they were actually shown the color or gray-scale stimuli. These results were obtained only during hypnosis in the left hemisphere, whereas blood flow changes reflected instructions to perceive color versus gray scale in the right hemisphere, whether or not subjects had been hypnotized. "
I wonder if people with PTSD; severe depression; schizophrenia; schizoaffective; etc disorders have similar neural connections, or divergent interconnections, that, when exacerbated, will cause similar "dulled" visual responses. If so, a constant "reminder" that color green is green and blue is blue may reduce the "dulled" perceptions. Sadly, people who hear auditory hallucinations may be told that green is gray-scale, which might provoke less intensity.
As an important side note, suicide can be "impulsive" as well and Ms. Cathy Barber, MPA, from Harvard Injury Control Research Center has an online Microsoft Power-point presentation that draws a relationship between decreased fatal suicides and reduction in firearms. Interestingly, the number of "attempts" has remained constant over the years.

Thanks for featuring the post. By the way, I hope your pain is reduced over time. I assume you endure much negative association over time, which completely contradicts how we "want" to remember.
"Carol" does not want to believe God punishes those who commit because that implies that her son has "sinned". As we know, sinning may send one to hell."
I believe this for anyone who suicides, I personally do not believe it is a sin. If you consider this, you are judging, and who are we to judge.
I apologize for assuming about the negative association. I made the comment because of the DSM definition of PTSD.
Also, I hope my above comment did not offend you.
I think the biggest problem is that those acting on thoughts of suicide do not have the capacity to reach out for the real help they need, and as you say, try to put on the "normal" mask in public until it becomes too heavy to lift.
I am so sorry about your brother. Also, I am sorry you must endure as well. I hope you have truly removed the option off the table. Remember, many are impulsive; I only say the latter because many might "fool" themselves as well.
