If there is any elected official who thinks that the founding fathers would have written the second amendment knowing that it would be used as the basis for the flooding of guns into America resulting in deaths by guns for 10's of millions of murder victims, then we should have their heads examined after we throw their asses out of office.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
The problem is that the 2nd amendment is poorly written. The Supreme Court currently interprets it as being two statements. One stating the need for a well regulate militia, and the second part stating a right to bear arms for personal defense.
However, that is a comma after the word "state", not a period. Therefore it should be interpreted as one statement which would make the right to bear arms contingent upon a well regulated militia. Ironically, a militia would require assault weapons, not hand guns, but several states regulate against private ownership of assault weapons.
BTW: We still have state militias, but the name has been changed and it is now known as the national guard.
