American Idol 2012 continued last night with the top 10 hopefuls as they sang--or in some cases, attempted to sing--tunes from the songbook of '80s music icon Billy Joel. One act in particular stood out as the evening's weakest option, but will funnyman Heejun Han pay the price for his crazed performance, or will America's votes save him from elimination?
If Votefortheworst.com has anything to say about it, Heejun will be back again next week. The site, which chooses the worst performer each week and instructs readers to vote for said contestant, gave Heejun's rendition of "My Life" the nod. Also earning recognition for his show-opening version of "Only the Good Die Young" was DeAndre Brackensick.
But did voters genuinely appreciate Heejun's unconventional--and really, downright weird--performance enough to vote for him? Although undoubtedly a nice guy, he's offered up a few weak performances in a row, and when compared to nearly all of the other finalists, his vocals just aren't up to snuff. In a right world, he'd get the boot.
But all isn't right in the world and voters don't always play fair, so Heejun will likely stick around for another week. DeAndre's shaky routine may well land him in danger, but he too will likely wind up safe. Most likely to face the axe are last week's bottom three survivors, Erika Van Pelt and Elise Testone. Although both ladies were impressive last night, they've historically not drawn votes with the same degree of success as other more popular acts, including Joshua Ledet and Hollie Cavanagh, who both drew criticism last night, and apparent competition frontrunner Jessica Sanchez.
