One Tree Hill season 9 continues with episode 11, "Danny Boy." Julian's speeding with Dan and Nathan in the backseat, and Brooke overhears him on the radio telling the hospital to be ready. Dan remembers shooting Keith as they pull up to the hospital. Haley runs through the halls and finally finds Nathan. With a "Hi, Hales," they're reunited, with an "always and forever" tossed in when she thanks him for coming home.
Reunited and It Feels So Good
Clay goes to Sara's parents, who tell him it's best he doesn't see Logan at the moment. Brooke joins Julian in the hospital, and after updates on their nights, they go to see Nathan, meaning more hugs and thanks. The good news continues when Haley calls Quinn and Brooke's father shows up at her door.
Haley's not leaving Nathan's side, but the doctor brings down the mood when he tells them that while Dan's out of surgery and they did all they could, it's not enough. Another reunion follows when Jamie, followed by Deb with Lydia, joins them.
Haley joins Jamie, who says it was good seeing Lucas and Peyton, though they kept looking at him like everyone does when there's something wrong. She tells him what happened to Dan, but Jamie's sure he'll be okay. Nathan blames himself for Dan getting shot, but Dan tells him he'd do it all over again.
Jamie apologizes to Dan for yelling at him, but Dan's proud of him. He has to tell Jamie that he's not going to make it this time. Clay tells Nathan about Logan and argues it was his fault since he was supposed to go to Europe. Nathan points out Dan wouldn't have saved him.
Brooke shows Ted some sketches, but he says he's there for her, not business. When Nathan wakes Haley up to tell her Lydia's walking, she breaks down and explains she started walking when he was gone. Haley kept thinking she couldn't imagine going on without him, but it was the thought of them together that kept him going.
Julian pulls out Lucas' An Unkindness of Ravens at his soundstage and when he gets home, he reveals he wants to make it into a television show. After watching Nathan with Jamie, Clay tells Sara's father he's going to prove he can be a good father to Logan. Brooke asks Ted if he's in town for another reason, and he tells her they have an offer to sell Baker Man.
The One Tree Hill Death
Jamie still thinks Dan's going to pull through like he has in the past because Scott men are tough, but Nathan explains he's dying and Dan needs Jamie to be tough. Jamie says he'll tell Lydia. As Dan continues remembering the past, Haley joins him with Lydia. He's not surprised Lucas isn't coming since he wasn't there for his life. He apologizes for taking Keith from Haley and tells her he's happy she proved him wrong that no one was good enough for Nathan. After she gives him Lydia to hold, Dan wonders if it's good that she'll never know him. Jamie walks in and confesses he can't be strong. He doesn't want Dan to go and hugs him. Haley tells Dan they'll tell Lydia how much he loved his grandchildren.
Clay brings Logan a model of the X-Jet and explains that he got sick, but he's going to make it up to him now. Logan asks if he'll "wander away again," but he explains he was looking for him, and father and son hug. Dan wakes up from a memory of the fire to Deb at the foot of his bed: "Am I in hell?" She knows their son is alive because of him. He wants her to stop blaming herself for Keith's death because he was the one to take his life. Nathan's surprised Haley's so strong, and she explains she's gotten through loss with him, Jamie, and their friends. He can't stop thinking of all the time he spent hating Dan. She points out that having time to say goodbye means the chance for closure.
Brooke tells Ted she doesn't want to sell, but he argues it's the right decision business-wise. She knows he's really there as a businessman to a client. When he tells her she's acting like a child, she points out he wasn't around when she was one.
Clay introduces Logan to Quinn. Things are looking up for them. Julian comforts Brooke over her father and tells her he'd leave Ted out of his show. He wouldn't know how to write a character who doesn't love her. She wonders why her father doesn't want her.
It's time for Nathan to say goodbye to Dan, and the scene switches to the Rivercourt. Nathan wants to know why he killed Keith, and Dan explains he was always jealous of him. He thought he tried to kill him, and hated him when he said it'd get better because he thought that could only happen with Keith dead. He pulled the trigger, but it got worse. He apologizes, but Nathan doesn't need it because he wouldn't have the life he does if not for him. Dan's still his father and after father and son both say "I love you," they play some basketball...until he begins flatlining. Keith stands over Dan as Nathan runs for help.
Dan walks with his brother into the hallway—and the school—to where he killed him and apologizes for everything. Keith forgives him. He may not be perfect, but Keith says he's become the person he wanted for a brother. After another exchange of "I love you," this one between the brothers, Keith shows him his family standing over him in the hospital room before leading him away. He's going to be Keith's "plus one" for where they go to next.
