Dear Mr. Rand (Executive Director of AARP),
Recently you sent us a letter encouraging us to renew our lapsed membership in AARP by the requested date. This isn't what you were looking for, but it's is the most honest response I can give you. Our coverage gap is a microscopic symptom of the real problem, a deepening lack of faith. While we have proudly maintained our membership for years and long admired the AARP goals and principles, regrettably, we can no longer endorse its abdication of our values. Your letter stated that we can count on AARP to speak up for our rights, yet the voice we hear is not ours.
Your offer of being kept up to date on important issues through DIVIDED WE FAIL presents neither an impartial view nor the one we have come to embrace. We do believe that when two parties agree all the time on everything presented to them, one is probably not necessary. But, when the opinions and long term goals are diametrically opposed, the divorce is imminent. This is the philosophy which spawned our 200 years of government.
Once upon a time, we looked forward to being part of the senior demographic. We also looked to AARP to provide certain benefits and give our voice a power we could not possibly hope to achieve on our own. AARP once gave us a sense of belonging which we no longer enjoy. The Socialist politics practiced by the Obama Regime and empowered by AARP serves only to raise the blood pressure my medical insurance strives to contain. Clearly a conflict of interest there! We do not understand the AARP posture, feel greatly betrayed by the guiding forces that we expected to map out our senior years and leave your ranks with a great sense of regret. We mitigate that disappointment with the relief of knowing that we are not contributing to the problem anymore by renewing our membership. There are numerous other organizations which offer discounts without threatening our way of life or offending our sensibilities and values.
This Obama Regime scares the living daylights out of us. Not just for ourselves, but for our proud and bloodstained heritage. But more importantly for our children and grandchildren. Washington has rendered Soylent Green a prophetic cautionary tale rather than a nonfiction scare tactic. I have never endorsed any militant or radical groups, yet now I find myself listening to them. I don't have to agree with them to appreciate the fear which birthed their existence. Their borderline insanity presents little more than a balance to the voice of the Socialist Mindset in power. Perhaps I became American by a great stroke of luck in some cosmic uterine lottery, but in my adulthood I CHOOSE to embrace it and nurture the freedoms it represents as well as the responsibilities.
Your website generously offers us the opportunity to receive all communication in Spanish. ARE YOU KIDDING??? The illegal perpetrators have broken into our 'house', invaded our home without invitation or consent. The President insists we keep these illegal perpetrators in comfort and learn the perpetrator's language so we can communicate our reluctant welcome to them. I DON'T choose to welcome them, to support them, to educate them, to medicate them, or to pay for their food or clothing. American home invaders get arrested. Please explain to me why foreign lawbreakers can enjoy privileges on American soil that Americans do not get? Why do some immigrants have to play the game to be welcomed and others only have to break and enter to be welcomed?
We travel for a living. Walt hauls horses all over this great country, averaging over 10,000 miles a month when he is out there. He meets more people than a politician on caffeine overdose. Of all the many good folks he enjoyed on this last 10,000 miles, this trip yielded only ONE supporter of the current Regime. One of us is out of touch with mainstream America. Since our poll is conducted without funding, I have more faith in it than ones that are driven by a need to yield AMNESTY (aka-make voters out of the foreign lawbreakers so they can vote to continue the government's free handouts). This addition of 10 to 20 million voters who then will vote to continue Socialism will OVERWHELM our votes to control the government's free handouts. It is a "slippery slope" we must not embark on!
As Margret Thatcher (former Prime Minister of Great Britain) once said "Socialism is GREAT - UNTIL you run out of other people's money".
We have decided to forward this to everyone on our mailing list, and will encourage them to do the same. With several hundred in my address book, I have every faith that the eventual exponential factor will make a credible statement to you. I am disappointed as all getout! I am more scared than I have ever been in my entire life! I am ANGRY! I am MAD as hell, and I'm NOT gonna take it anymore!

Here's the story.
Watch the video here.
We don't take AARP at all. Some moral values ARE worth paying for, standing ground for. That's our conscious choice and it is precisely so because we will not sell our souls to an organization that we unequivocally consider the devil's advocate. That's much better IMO than taking some "deal" we find repulsive to the core of our values, because it's the only "deal" in town.
It's not about any one individual's best deal ... it's about taking a stand against immorality being seeded throughout our entire country, effecting millions. There's strength in numbers.
"Everything God permits, there is purpose behind it for some reason or another." We agree. My fervent prayer is that America is calling on God. I don't find it my place to judge if or who might've left God.
It was clear some time ago that you & I do not see eye to eye politically, Rosa. I silently questioned if our friendship could survive that, because those of political persuation that profess the most tolerance typically prove to have the least. I am not offended by your loyalties. I can only ask that you not read more into mine than is there (that's happened more than once). Let us simply agree to disagree.
A monopoly on paying for medicine by the feds may or may not include the effective, low-cost modes of treatment some of us now pay for with our own money.
If not, the lines for people wanting conventional medicine will get longer, as people who feel they cannot afford to pay show up in the lines as they age into the forcible payment of Medicare premiums, by withdrawal from Social Security payments.
I worked in the sacrifice job, sometimes referred to as jobbette (Steinem). I will get a minimal SS payment, and they will take about $99 (planned as of now) from that when I reach 65.
If I chose to live in my old car, I might be able to eat with the SS amount.
My jobbette status could earn me half of what my 28-year marriage is valued at by the Powers That Be. I'm half a human, right? It is true that my lifestyle is different from his, so perhaps it balances out. Nonetheless, it all seems capricious and strange to me.
That is in great part due to Obama's increase in health insurance premiums and medication costs and regulations and the descreases and constraints in services covered. It is also due to the peripheral increases in sustenance living costs across the board, averaging about 35% since he took office a mere three years ago.
Medicare is more costly than the $99/year. They have a deductible, too. We're supposed to have a very good private plan, which also has a deductible, and we've encountered a 33% increase in essential medication costs this year alone. Now those have a new deductible as well. I just paid $110 for one medication that used to cost me $40. If you're on several medications, that become prohibitive.
Obamacare is not a pretty picture. I know the importance of accessing medical care. I want everyone to have it. I do not want everyone else pulled down so others, many who don't want or need it, are forced to have it. And that is exactly what Obamacare does. It lowers the quality of everyone's lives for benefit of a slight few. If we're going to do this, at least do it right. Obamacare hasn't been "right" from the get go.

My M.D. got trained in acupuncture to reduce medication side effects for his patients. Sometimes the side-effects are so life-threatening that people cannot take the meds (e.g., me).
My dad wanted to be a hardware guy. He took Vioxx and had an operation to fuse his cervical spine.
Acupuncture works for me though. I am still here after many with the stage of cancer I had are gone (I am 12 years out).
Medicine is becoming personalized, meaning that the differences between persons are beginning to be acknowledged. (Who would have thought we did not come off an assembly line like Wonder Bread?)
If you are interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine, you can search community-supported acupuncture to see if there is a place near you. Some of my friends also trade reception work for treatment. This kind of clinic is very neighborhood-based.
I teach exercise. If I pull a muscle, I don't want to car-wrestle a parking place at one of those huge conventional places and then hike to see whomever is on call. I like knowing who I am seeing and having them know me over time.
We shall have diversity, even if Obama today issued an executive order saying he can take over our food if he wants. Sheesh.
I considered alternative therapies then and, despite spin off health issues from the "clinical poisons" (chemo/rads), I had wonderful medical doctors and am grateful I did it their way. Never say "never," but I would likely not opt for that again and I doubt if my health could withstand that again.
Your description of Traditional Chinese ("neighborhood") Medicine is very encouraging. However we live in a rural area where those avenues are unlikely and I cannot drive distances. I have pretty much assumed now, God forbid, if I am afflicted again I will accept the natural happenstance.
You have indeed shed a new light on my way of thinking about medical care. Thank you for that. I will do some look-ups. I have an appointment upcoming specifically to try to reduce the clinical medications, they are problematic in more ways than one. I would welcome a "real" doctor.
BTW, last I heard Obama did take over our food ... ?
When I had my treatment, one of clients in an agency where I was working was 40 years out, still being leaned on by her family to cook and hostess all the family shindigs, in her 80's, and she got hit by a car while eating soup in a Japanese restaurant with a friend. She had broken bones but recovered.
She was quite a role model for me, except, though I eat rugulach from time to time, but I am not baking 6 dozen for an ungrateful whiny family as they sit around watching mom work.
My role model was a eldery lady (not so "elderly" these many years later :), probably mid to late 70s then, whom I met in chemo. "Dot." I will never forget her. Her strength of will and character made 10 of mine. Last I knew she was back in for a third. My wish would be to leave everyone I know with the good impressions that lady left with me in a 3-hour chemo session, of all places.
The cost of Obamacare is already far too much...and it's hardly started. I thought my hubby was going to have a heart attack when the pharmacist told him one of my medications was now $497 per month (until we meet our deduction). We thought it was horrible last year at $347.
We have a $3000 per year deductible and this year we reached that by the first week of February. Typically it has taken us until about April 15.
OMG I am so sorry to hear of your increase in medication costs and high deductibles. I should shut my mouth and call myself lucky. We are supposed to have a very good plan, but it sure is not what it was before Obamacare. I cancelled cancer testing this month, putting it off another six, against doctor recommendation. In good part because no one even tells you about what's not covered until after it's too late. If I knew what I was incurring, at least we could make a reasonable decision before incurring it. They seem to take great pleasure in setting you up for failure. "Over my dead body," and it may come to that :).
God bless you, Marilyn.
