Alec Baldwin calls Republican an 'Oil Whore!'

In another personal attack, Alec Baldwin calls a Republican Senator an "Oil Whore." Alec Baldwin has dished out a series of personal attacks against Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe. Inhofe has put up with Mr. Baldwin's nutty and hateful attacks, but where is the media outrage?

Is this a double standard? When Rush Limbaugh called a woman a slut, the media went nuts and advertisers pulled their advertising, but what happens to Alec Baldwin who calls a sitting U.S. Senator a Whore?

I am outraged. Alec Baldwin is known for his outlandish behavior, and so is Rush Limbuagh, but I would feel better if this weren't so one sided.

When is President Obama going to come out and call for peace and ask Alec Baldwin to stop inciting people. Where is the phone call from the President to Senator? What hypocrisy! Alec Baldwin is the star of the lame show "30 Rock" as if anyone cares.

Mr. Baldwin has threatened to leave the United States. Wow, that would be horrible!

A Senator is a public figure. A law school student is not. There is a significant difference which you can easily understand.

So is it all right to call any senator, president, president's child such names, no! Only Republicans if we are honest.

No, Carol, it's not all right. It's legal (except for the child case). Calling someone not a public figure (like the child of a candidate for Vice President) names is or should be illegal if done via the mass media. I believe there are laws against slander and libel. I should think a lawsuit could reasonably be brought against anyone who attacked via the mass media a President's child.

But I am sure you distinguish between that which is moral and that which is legal.

I, unfortunately, am a of Inhofe constituient (spelling). Oklahoma has two republican senators, both do not reflect my views. At least when I write to their offices concerning some issue, and I do this several times a week, Senator Coburn replies. Senator Inhofe has only replied once in two years. It is like he doesn't care what the voters say.

As to what Alec Baldwin said, I may not have used the same words but I do agree with him. The big difference between Baldwin and Limbaugh, is that Baldwin makes his living as an actor who occassionally make politicial statements, that may insult someone. Limbaugh makes his living as a political commentator, who always insults people he disagrees with.

Baldwin has a long list of insulting people, and it's not his job. His job is to entertain, so I think his insults are worse.

Perhaps "a bought and paid for advocate for the oil industry" would have been a nicer way to put it, but the meaning is essentially the same.

I agree William. There is no doubt that Inhofe is in the proverbial bed of oil, but the office deserves respect. Who is alec Baldwin to call names when he can't even stay on a plane without getting kicked off.

not defending the guy yet why is it so wrong for one opinion to be right or wrong,,
just saying you can say stuff about one guy yet other cant say stuff about others,,
It's a rude thing to say, but pretty accurate. "Oil shill" might be a nicer way to put it. Can't say I'm surprised that a senator from Oklahoma might be favorable to the oil industry. :)

While I would also prefer a different word (Nippy's "shill" is nice), I see an important difference. Baldwin's use of "whore" is metaphoric and means "someone who compromises his/her principles and self-respect for money or other personal gain". Limbaugh actually meant "promiscuous woman who has 'too much sex'".
I missed the metaphorical/literal distinction. It may have been because I was trying to watch an almost 2 year old at the time or it may have been my normal obtuseness. :)

One thing Baldwin and Limbaugh have in common is that they both seem to enjoy getting a rise out of people.

Some used the words "metaphorical" and "metaphoric", derived from the word "metaphor". The rest should look that one up! (Just pick the root word and save time). I find it difficult to believe that a person could be sexually involved with a viscous hydrocarbon, even if it were able to pay for the exchange. Thus, the Senator from OK couldn't be a "whore" in the literal. On the other hand, getting medically necessary services without cost...well that does not imply an exchange of sexual favors, but then it seems like Limbaugh was being literal, and profane, and insulting to over half the population....but I digress.
