Going out of your comfort zone early on American Idol can have mixed results, as Jessica Sánchez found out tonight. She has a big voice and nailed Whitney last week, but this week she wanted to let loose with some Latin flair. Performing "Turn The Beat Around" by Gloria Estefan, Jessica showed that she's a performer as much as she is a singer, interacting with the band in accordance with the lyrics, and even cueing them at one point. This was a cool suggestion by Jimmy Iovine. He also told her to enunciate the lyrics, as it is a staccato song. This she did well, but all of this was a bit too much for the pace. The judges nailed her for not keeping up with the rhythm. Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson actually tried to help her though and not saying just do ballads. This is the first true constructive criticism they have given out. Normally they just gush or praise an outfit, which Jessica deserved as well. However, she still seems to be a favorite to win American Idol and should make tour easily.
