One Direction might be staging a British invasion similar to that of the Beatles, but they've been compared to an unlikely pop star—Pink.
With a few of the guys sporting floppy hairdos, they do somewhat resemble some of the British pop stars that made it big in America during the swingin
' '60s, but they're not too keen about being compared to Paul, John, George, and Ringo. According to E! Online, Liam Payne called the comparisons "ridiculous," so at least 1D's egos haven't gotten too over-inflated yet. However, the Justin Bieber lookalike does find it "incredible" that the band is adored like the Biebs is in the States.
It's not hard to see why One Direction is being compared to the Beatles and Justin Bieber—the comparisons were bound to be made with their boyish looks and the screaming crowds of girls that greet them everywhere. However, Harry Styles (who somewhat resembles a young Mick Jagger) says this about which major music star the band is most like: "It's important to deliver good music that we and fans enjoy... we're described like Pink as a boy band."
It's really hard to see this—1D's flavor of music kind of lacks that pop punk attitude and angry edge that many of Pink's songs have. Plus she seems like the type of musician who would bash boy bands in one of her songs, so it would certainly be interesting to know where Harry heard that comparison.
It could be fun if One Direction decided to emulate Pink in their music; Irish cutie Niall Horan has light blonde hair that could easily be dyed pink, so perhaps his pal Katy Perry could lend him some of her hair dye. Of course, they'd all have to get a few tattoos, and 1D could also take a page from the tough female star by taking on "Stupid Guys" instead of "Stupid Girls"—someone needs to teach young women to stay away from the likes of the Jersey Shore guys and Chris Brown.
If the guys were to be compared to any female singers, they're probably more like the Spice Girls. But of course, Harry Styles would have to spice up his life by trading his crested coat for a Union Jack dress and platform boots (now that would be a fun direction for the group to take).
