Okay, so I haven't posted the last 2 days. Sorry. Things here are really stressed and busy. There are a lot of holidays for today, so take your pick!
1). Courageous Follower's Day: All leaders require followers and, in fact, virtually all of us are followers at some times and leaders at others. This day honors the too-often disparaged role of follower. Its purpose is to dispel the myth that followers are passive and to raise awareness that good followership is energetic and at times courageous.
2). Employee Appreciation Day: I guess if there is a boss's day, there should be an employee day. This day honors employees everywhere! It would have been better if this one was tomorrow, but you can't help it when a holiday falls on a weekend.
3). Holy Experiment Day: This is the day to try something religious. There are a lot of things that can be viewed as religious or holy experiments, and I'll let you come up with your own. I just find this holiday odd.
4). March Forth - Do Something Day: I love the play on words with this one. March forth and go for your goals.....do something and don't procrastinate.
5). National Day of Unplugging: this holiday actually starts at sundown today and goes for 24 hours. It is a creative project designed to slow down lives in an increasingly hectic world and they have created 10 core principles -
1 – Avoid Technology,
2 – Connect with loved ones.
3 – Nurture your health.
4 – Get outside.
5 – Avoid commerce.
6 - Light Candles
7- Drink wine
8- Eat Bread
9- Find Silence
10 - Give Back
I do find this one interesting.....for more information on this holiday http://www.sabbathmanifesto.org/
6). National Salesperson Day: This day is established to recognize the value of the truly professional salesperson and recognizes the hard work performed by professional sales people. Since it is already employee appreciation day, the salespeople got screwed....LOL.
7). Hug A GI Day: Give a great big hug to any and all GIs you see today. The men and women in our armed forces deserve our thanks and appreciation. Chris -- give your hubby a hug from me. I got a hug from Ed....he's a former marine...so I did celebrate this one.
8). Toy Soldier Day: Toy Soldier Day was established to commemorate the vision of a Utopian Playland and recognize the fine Soldiers who are making this vision a reality, according to one website. Okay....this holiday celebrates those little green men we all played with as children. Disneyland even celebrates this day with a parade of army soldiers....from Toy Story.
9). National Grammar Day: http://nationalgrammarday.com/ This holiday actually has a website. This is the day to celebrate grammar and language. National Grammar Day was established in 2008 by Martha Brockenbrough, founder of the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar.
10). Benjamin Harrison Day: This is the day to celebrate our 23rd President. Harrison was a successful lawyer before and after his presidency, as well as a general in the Army during the Civil War. Benjamin Harrison Day is celebrated on the anniversary of his inauguration, and not his birthday. I have no idea why that is.
Oh, now I'm tired....I have so much still to do. Have a good evening.
