It makes you wonder

            Yesterday someone commented on a photo I posted years ago. I went to the photo and replied to the comment. I try to reply to any comment on anything I have posted. When I looked at the large number of comments on the photo it made me wonder about the many friends who were commenting then. I was getting many more comments on my posts then than on my recent posts. I know I have just come back to Gather and that was part of the reason.

            Being curious I went to the home page of each of them. Many had not signed in to Gather in months. Many more had not signed in for years.

            Some of my best friends are still here and I have been so very glad to get back with them. I wonder why most of the others have left Gather. They seemed to love it so much back then.

Comments on my posts have dropped significantly also. It's sad not to see many of our old friends on Gather any more.

It does make you wonder, Christine. I know there are variious reasons, but have been surprised at how many are gone.

Same here William. When Gather changed the point system so many times a lot got discouraged and left. If you don't care about earning points you can find them on Facebook. I think you had a lot of the same connections as me.

I don't understand Facebook, how it works or why I would post things there but it does draw a lot of members and there aren't any rewards.

I would not have thought so many would leave because of reduction in points. I have to admit it though, I'm disappointed. I wanted to help pay for my camera by picking up points on photos. Looks like it won't happen.

I don't have anything against Gather but my life has gotten in the way for me to spend much time here. It's harder for me to come visiting here when I am still dealing with my grief from losing a family member so recently but I'm trying to ease back in to Gather and virtual visiting. Perhaps those who have left Gather also had things happen in their lives that made it too painful or difficult in some way to virtual visit? I don't know why but it is sad to see so few of the same people we always saw here years ago.

I'm busy but I'm still here every day but sometimes its weeee hours, but I have a 9 year old and a 2 almost 3 year old who don't like to go to bed so when I'm sitting here listening to Scooby Dooo and Go Deigo Go this is all I got to do I have watched Scooby Doo through 5 kids and the oldest is now 20 I know them all by heart.

I think the changes on Gather is why so many people have left. Including the reduction in points. I try to comment on the posts of people I know. But, it seems like I don't get nearly the views and comments as last year. I also think that things happen in our lives that steer us to other things. Change is good!

We've had a few that died but most have left because of the points. It's still possible to make cashout but you really have to work hard and stay on here a lot to do so. People get discouraged and just give up I think. Glad you came back to join us again William.

It was about a few weeks ago that they lowered the points. But, lots of people did leave Gather before that, probably because of being busy and just couldn't keep up with the site anymore

I stay for the friends. The points are so slow anymore that it isn't worth the amount of time it takes if you ae in if for compensation.

Well, some leave when points are going too slow for them.
Others leave because "real life" does not allow them to spend time here anymore.
And I could imagine that some even forget about the site.

I think people have left for a combination of factors (life, point changes). I still love being on gather for the people, there are some truly amazing people on here. I know my activity isn't like it used to be, but I have a lot going on outside gatherland with work, friends, family, volunteering etc.

William, for me, it's not the points. It's just that life has a way of getting in the way - and when you are really busy - well, often now I choose an hour more sleep over gather...

I still really enjoy Gatherland ... BUT it has changed dramatically. Some of it was needed & some still needs to be changed ... I would like to see a 'facelift' for the front page & faster servers for all of us - so that we can get around Gather faster. All in all ... many have left BUT there are new ppl coming in everyday too. I guess that is just life in general. It happens everywhere. There are not too many other networking sites & points sites that are quite like Gather ... I have tried several but always come back. Anyway ... HELLO everyone if I haven't seen you here before!!!

The points have changed and alot of the interests on here seems to point at political views... Some have been kicked off for various reasons... its refreshing to be able to come to your article...
