The Beauty in All Beautiful Days



In each splendid moment and in countless ways,

I am blessed above all others that live ~

You are the beauty in all beautiful days.


There is nothing that I would not give

To capture and hold these moments in time ~

I am blessed above all others that live.


Your soul, a white camellia, forever in prime,

Bright and glorious under an inconstant sky ~

To capture and to hold these moments in time.


Every aspect of your brilliance fills my loving eye,

Every incarnation of yourself, through every season of this life,

Bright and glorious under an inconstant sky;


The beautiful child, the spirited girl, the belle of my dreams...my wife.

Everyone you'd ever been; or, ever, shall you be...

Every incarnation of yourself, through every season of this life,


All of you resides in me, In the gardens of my memory,

Everyone you'd ever been; or, ever, shall you be;

In each splendid moment and in countless ways

In Chinese tradition, camellias' perfectly symmetrical form symbolizes the expression of long-lasting devotion. The petals of the camellia symbolize the spirit of a young lady, while the calyx (which holds the blossom) symbolizes a young man entrusted to care for and protect the lady. Unlike most flowers, the calyx of the camellia falls with the petals and symbolizes perfect unity and everlasting devotion.

You know better than I, my luminous friend, that there is a little light inside of each one, and the brilliance of it depends so much on genuine love as the very source and cycle of it... The love between spouses, between parents and their children, between friends, between brothers and sisters; it's all, in its essence, the same... with variances related to intimacy... but love is love, and when its genuine everyone shines more brilliantly.... Shine on, bright sister, and enjoy your Valentine's day.

Mustafa, what a beautiful, beautiful love poem. I bet your wife knows how fortunate she is also to have you as her husband. I feel very fortunate to have an opportunity to read a man's poem so lovingly written to and about his wife. You make the world a better place. You cut a chunk in the sometimes murky speech of men. Now that I think about it, all women would do well to applaud you for this.

It may be that most men feel the same as I do, but then feel, too, that they mustn't reveal it for fear of "dulling the edge of husband-ry" or something to that effect... I suppose that here is a kind of pride in most men that forbids them these open expressions of ardour for that and those that they love... perhaps an instinct derived of the intrinsic need to protect them... In any event, I thank you much for your lovely words and I hope that your Valentine's Day is wonderful.

Actually, I'll always treasure the memory of the look in her eyes as she read this poem this evening... because all we do turns, almost at the very instant, into memory, and when all we have is what is done, and what we hold most dear, memory becomes a treasure trove... and if paradise proves to be the sum of all our memories and all those sweet and gentle moments are, once again, ours to live and relive as often as we please... we must make the most of our time together and invest in beautiful memories.
