'Mad Men' Season 5: Jon Hamm Talks Long Break, Production Finished, Set Injuries

Mad Men is finally returning to AMC this month (yes, you can finally say this month—it's been a long 17 months), and Jon Hamm is busy also promoting his new movie, Friends With Kids, but of course he talked about his AMC drama when he stopped by David Letterman Thursday night.

Jon Hamm Talks Long Break Between Seasons 4 and 5

Hamm described the reason for the long break as: "I've described it thusly and I've gotten in trouble, so I'll do it again the same way. When billionaires fight, it takes a lot longer to settle. So we had some very wealthy people determining how long we would be off the air." Fortunately that was settled and now the AMC drama will be back in just a few weeks, and that means it's finally time to see what's coming next for Don and all your favorite characters. For example, is Don going to be married? What's going to happen with Joan's pregnancy? What's coming up for Betty? How will they be dealing with January Jones' pregnancy?

Jon Hamm also revealed, "We are, in fact, finished with production," adding that Mad Men "season 5 is in the books." Beginning March 25, fans can see that fifth season, and with that long wait, viewers are expecting to tune back in for some pretty impressive hours. Will they see what they're hoping for when they do? There are some pretty high expectations set for season 5, and if a show can pull that off, it's this one. There is a reason that fans are still excited about it after a 17 month break, after all.

Hamm also talked to Letterman about set injuries, which do occur even though, "It's an office show. We don't have a lot of stunt work." He has walked away with quite a few injuries for it being just a plain old drama, including a broken hand and stitches in his head. Anything can happen on a television show set, and it sounds like no one's safe from falling sets.
