Whitney Houston's death caused the singer to break a record. Amazingly, the late star has three albums in Billboard's Top 200 Top 10 at the same time. Can you believe it?
The albums on the top 10 are Whitney: The Greatest Hits (#2, 174,000 units sold), The Bodyguard soundtrack (#6, 47,000 units sold), and Whitney Houston (#9, 30,000 units sold). It is obvious that her death has greatly affected fans throughout the world. The mammoth sales come as she was featured in the Oscars tribute.
It is also sad that it had to be her death that triggered such a resurgence in her popularity. In fact, it may just make you question Whitney Houston's cause of death, which was ruled an accident, especially in light of the fact that she was in a lot of debt when she died.
The feat of having three albums in the top 10 hasn't even been achieved since July 1968 when Simon & Garfunkle had three on the chart, and that makes this record even more astonishing. You realize that not even Michael Jackson accomplished this when he died.
What is so sad about this is that even these extraordinary album sales will not pay off Houston's debt to Sony, so it is likely that Bobbi Kristina and her other heirs will not see much from the three top ten albums.
