The estimates of the cost of maintaining one soldier for a year that I've seen that seem credible are around $800,000. One gallon of fuel  probably costs over $300.00 per.

A senior United States commander warns that US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014 will be impossible if Pakistan doesn't re-open key overland supply routes it closed amid deteriorating diplomatic relations. While existing agreements allow non-lethal supplies and some types of armored vehicles to travel through Central Asia - this isn't the case for weapons.
